The Red Deer Rebels headed an hour and a bit north on the QE2 friday night to take on the 4-31 Edmonton Oil Kings. Its Edmonton’s rebuild year they are due.

No scoring until 10 minutes into the first period when Jayden Grubbe was at the door step to pick up a nice gift from a Matteo Fabrizi shot to make it 1-0. But Noah Boyko tied it up on the Power Play 14 minutes in to make it a 1-1 game. With just over a minute left in the first period Matteo Fabrizi ties it up with a shot from the point. To finish off the period with 40 seconds left Jace Isely scored a nice goal upstairs making it 4-1.

With just 2 minutes into the second period Kai Uchacz tipped the puck in to get his 30th goal of the season. Rilen Kovacevic scored for the Oil Kings getting his second point of the night and making the game 4-2 with 15 minutes remaining.

But it wasn’t enough the Rebels scored two more goals to end out the period from Mayo and Lind. There was no scoring in the third and the game ended 6-2 Rebels. Rebels netminder Rhett Stoesser got his second win in as many nights. The Rebels outshot the Oil Kings 31-19.

Game Notes

Attendance at Rexall Place was 5,844 or is called Rogers thing? I call it the Oiler building close enough.

I always thought that usually the Oil Kings had sharp looking uniforms. But last nights crappy looking retro 80’s Buffalo Sabres rip offs looked horrible. I guess if you are going to have a record of a terrible team you may as well have the jerseys to match. (Although watching the Buffalo Sabres of today the last few games they don’t look that bad.)

Rebels next game is on New Year’s day vs the Calgary Hitmen. Years ago New Years Days games use to be quite funny to go and watch. Mainly because most of the players were really hung over. They tend to not do that kind of stuff anymore😉🤪
