The Bulldogs have jumped into second place in the AJHL South Division. 4th in the league. 👍Okotoks had some injuries as they were missing 6 of their best forwards and we have played two more games than they have. Even last year I remember Okotoks always seeming to have more injuries than most teams. With that being said the Oilers still seemed to ice a good team. They had 3 16 year old call ups playing that did not look out of place either.

Brendan Ross opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs from Loomer and Siedem at 8:23 of the 1st period. Ross was left open at the hashmarks for so long he should of grabbed a chair and had a seat.

Then on a delayed penalty call (while the Bulldogs were shorthanded) with 3:44 left in the first Evan Mitchel scored his first goal as a Bulldog assisted by Tyler Teasdale and Jason Siedem. Then less than a minute later on one of the most pathetic clearing attempts ever made by Okotoks, it was just given to the Bulldogs. It was dumped on net by David Brandes, Meerman got it over to Jayden Joly who was there to net his 12th of the season. In the third period Joly gets his 2nd of the game in similar fashion. The Oilers not properly clearing the puck.

The Oilers out shot the Bulldogs too for the first 2 periods 20 to 17. The final shots at the end of the game were 31 for Blackfalds and 27 for Okotoks. Matthew Hennessey recorded his second shutout in as many games.

I talked with someone from Okotoks at the game about the Okotoks Oilers injuries. They were telling me that the reason why all those 7 guys on the roster are injured is because they don’t work out. Not just one or two, every single one of them🤔🤔 I figured with it being 80s night at the arena they could of took some tips from the king Richard Simmons. Blaming the players injuries on their work out habits may have a bit to do with it. But who knows maybe its because of climate change🤔 That’s the cause of everything these days isn’t it?

Other Notes

Bulldogs next game is Saturday January 7th in Okotoks. Next home game is Tuesday January 17th against the Drumheller Dragons.

Attendance was 800. I think they announced that the 50/50 was the largest ever there too if I heard correct. It was 80’s and ringette night.

Tanner Willick did not play again tonight due to injury. Speaking of injuries looking at the Bulldogs roster what happens if someone else goes down😲 Don’t want to think that way but one can imagine them adding a player or 2 soon.

I would of picked the 3 stars exactly how they were announced and I don’t think anybody else watching that game would disagree with who got them.

  1. Matthew Hennessey- BulldogsCollected his second shut out in as many games. Going to be a strong contender for the leagues player of the week.
  2. Jayden Joly- BulldogsA pair of goals.
  3. Evan Mitchell- BulldogsFirst goal as a Bulldog.
