Rebels Defeat Hurricanes 2-1 in Overtime
The suspense. I use to think that the only place in Lethbridge to see cool things was Top Hat🤪So I heard. Saturday night the second place Rebels went down the highway to play the 5th place Hurricanes. The Hurricanes do not have any NHL drafted players on their roster. Besides Cozens in 2019 and Seabrook way back in 2003, the Hurricanes have not really had any famous first round draft picks in franchise history. (And no getting Phillips in 97 for a bit doesn’t count.) Kalan Lind opened the scoring 2 minutes into the second period firing in his 12th goal of the season to make it 1-0 Rebels. Assists on the goal to Jace Weir and Craig Armstrong. The Lethbridge Hurricanes Miguel Marques tied the game up 10 minutes later. Thats Marques’s 5th goal of the season from Chase Paul and Tristen Doyle. Miguel Marques does not sound like the name of a 16 year old hockey star from Prince George, BC, which he is. 🤔Don’t go to Mexico on spring break kid, some of those Interpol agents aren’t nice. After 2 periods Rebels outshot 19-5 Hunter Mayo scored the overtime winner with 5 seconds remaining to ensure the Rebels the 2 points. That goal was Mayo’s 14th of the season. That makes him the leading goal scorer among all defencemen in the WHL. Not only does the 18 year old undrafted Martensville, SK native have more goals than any other d man in the WHL, he also had more goals than any defenceman that made Canada’s World Junior Team at the time. Other Notes Attendance was 3,716 at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge. Rebels outshot the Hurricanes 39-32. Rhett Stoesser got his 16th win of the season. Rebels next game is Friday January 20th against the Prince George Spruce Kings and will mark the return of Arjun Bawa since he was traded.
