Bulldogs Double Canucks 6-3

Blackfalds Bulldogs take on the Calgary Canucks Friday night at the Max Bell in Calgary to start the home and home weekend series. The Bulldogs are 1 and 1 against the Canucks this season. Bulldogs scored 1 minute in on the power play with Brett Meerman scoring his 25th of the season from Tyler Wallace and Tanner Willick. But wait we have seen this scenerio before. ALOT, lately. You almost wouldn’t of known that goal went in on how quiet it was at the Max Bell. One of the only people in the stands is the bus driver who probably keeps checking his watch hoping they hurry the hell up. At 9 minutes into the 1st former Fort McMurray Oil Baron Ty Hipkin scored for the Canucks from Cale Sanders and Bowden Singleton. The Bulldogs took the lead 5 minutes later when Connor Dick scored his 14th of the season on the Power Play. Assists on that goal to Kurt Gurkan and Brendan Ross. Tyler Wallace plowed down and made it 3-1 with 3 minutes remaining in the first. He rang it off the post and in to get his team leading 30th of the season from Brett Meerman. Wallace has scored quite a few similar goals like that this season. It make is look like either he is that much physically stronger than his opponents or they are that weak. I mean he probably is going to score anyway may as well make it look like you are trying to defend him incase that one guy in the stands picking empties out of the trash can is a scout. The Canucks weren’t done yet though. With only 10 seconds left in the first period Former Canmore Eagle Dylan Bidyk scored for the Canucks from Daniel Rozsival and Daxton Budd to cut the Bulldogs lead to only 1 before the intermission. The Bulldogs start the 2nd off the same way they started the first with Meerman scoring from Jayden Joly and Tyler Wallace. 4-2 Bulldogs. At 11:33 of the second period while on the Power Play Jason Seidem scored from Jayden Joly and Brett Meerman. This makes the Bulldogs 3 for 3 on the power play. Then seconds later they rushed down and scored again. to Make it 6-2. This time it was David Brandes scoring his 5th of the season from Connor Dick and Kurt Gurkan. And that was the end of Canucks goalies Max Prazma’s night. 5 minutes into the third Meerman was stopped on a breakaway denying him his hat trick goal. Half way through the third period Matt Corbet made it 6-3 for the Canucks. But it wasn’t enough. Bulldogs get the win. Other Notes Bulldogs next home game is February 4th against the Calgary Canucks. Three Stars of the nights game were 1) Brett Meerman 2) Tyler Wallace and 3) Jayden Joly. Brendan Ross committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and Otto Hanson committed to the University of Western Michigan this week.👍 The Bulldogs also signed prospects Noah Davis and Ty Gordon. Both of who played exhibition games with the Bulldogs earlier this season and looked well. I knew the Canucks had the son of one NHLer with Daniel Rozsival. I took awhile for it to clue in to me that Matt Corbet was the son of ex Flame and Avalanche Rene Corbet. I looked it up and I thought Rene Corbet was shorter than 6’1. Probably another reason I never clued in that a kid who is 6’4 would of been related. More out of town announcers complaining again about the Bulldogs white numbers on their white jerseys. It is hard to see.🤔 In other bright news for the Bulldogs the Olds Grizzlys defeated the Okotoks Oilers tonight 3-2. It was at one point 3-0 for the Grizzlys. The Drumheller Dragons also lost to the Sherwood Park Crusaders in overtime. That helps the Bulldogs out alot since it is a tight race for second in the south and last weekends play really hurt them. Attendance at the Max Bell was 209.
