The Bulldogs are 4-0 against the Canmore Eagles in the season series so far. There is a very good chance that this is the Bulldogs first round playoff opponent also. We’ll just cut to the point it is now a 5-0 season series lead in a Bulldogs 10-1 thumping Friday night in Canmore.
Layne Loomer and Connor Dick each had hat ricks and Jason Siedem had a pair of goals. When Conor Dick scored to make it 3-0 Bulldogs only 7 minutes into the 1st period the Eagles yanked goaltender Matt Malin.
Kody Willick and Kayden Rawji fought at 5:13 of the first (win to Willick) (Full Video of fight below). It was Rawji that Hiemstra dropped the gloves at last time the Bulldogs played them. Except that time Rawji wouldn’t fight. For Canmore that was a smart attempt it really was. When your down a guy have a fight and usually it will build a spark. The thing is you have to win the fight. Moment went the Bulldogs way and the Bulldogs scored 2 quick goals. Dick getting his second and Jake Geraci scored seconds apart to end the first period at 5-0.
In the second period Brett Meerman scored his 29th goal of the season from Brendan Ross on the Power Play. Then seconds again while still on the power play it is now 7-0 as Connor Dick gets his Hattrick goal.
On to the third period. With just under 3 minutes in Jason Siedem scored to make it 8-0 from Dick and Gurkan
The Canmore Rec Plex sounded like the Eagles scored the overtime winner of a game 7 league final when they scored their first goal. They will retire Emanual Hudson’s jersey now for that one. Happy timesππ. But that didnt last long.
About 5 minutes into the third period (and only 30 seconds after Canmore’s Most Triumphant celebration, Andreai Proctor-Ramirez gave the puck right to Layne Loomer and they scored 9-1 Bulldogs. Loomer decided to get his hat trick goal later in the period and make it 10-1 Bulldogs and they start this weekend off on a great note.
Other Notes
Bulldogs next game is Saturday against the Okotoks Oilers for the final time this season.
Charlie Zolin was injured and Noah Davis replaced him as back up goalie for tonight’s game.
There were 590 in attendance in Canmore.
Shots on goal were 49-30 for the Bulldogs.
Canmore needs a new scoreboard badly. Its just real bad. That city has the money to put a nice score board in one corner and even a jumbo tron in the other. If the city doesn’t have enough money one of those nice NHL players that come through and use your facility and town for vacation should donate one. The players deserve one, the fans deserve one, and the city deserves one.
Layne Loomer is nominated as a finalist for AJHL Rookie of the Year and Tanner Willick is nominated for AJHL Defenceman of the Year.
That was Canmore’s worst spanking this year. Their second worse one was a 9-2 loss on December 17th to the Olds Grizzlys.
