On Friday night, the Red Deer Rebels showed up and played like the Red Deer Rebels at Westoba Place, impressively notching three goals in under three minutes early in the second period. This propelled them towards a commanding 6-3 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings, who were left anticipating their golf season tee times in front of the 3,342 fans in attendance. The Rebels’ impressive performance served as a strong rebound from their two previous losses and was driven by the outstanding five-point performance of defenseman Mats Lindgren.
In the second period, specifically at the 6:43 mark, Ben King opened the scoring for the Rebels. With a perfectly executed one-timer on the Powerplay, King notched his 15th goal of the season. The goal was set up by Christoffer Sedoff and Mats Lindgren. Around 2 minutes later, while on the Powerplay again Ben King scored AGAIN, getting his 16th goal of the season, this time the assists go to Lindgren and Kai Uchacz.
Less than a minute after that goal Mats Lindgren scored his 10th goal of the season. Assists on that goal to Talon Brigley and Hunter Mayo. Now if you were paying any attention that was 3 points in 2:29 for Mats Lindgren👍 Then at 16:40 of the second period Captain Jayden Grubbe scored his 15th goal of the season from Lindgren who gets point number 4👍
Early in the third period, the home team finally found their footing and responded with a power play goal, as Red Deer native and future 2023 NHL draft first rounder, Nate Danielson, delivered an impressive one-timer from the left circle, beating netminder Chase Wutzke. Thats Danielson’s 30th goal of the season assisted by Dawson Pasternak and captain and Brandon native Nolan Ritchie.
Rylen Roersma scored his 16th of the season from Ben Thornton and Weyburn, SK native Quinn Mantei to make it 4-2 at the 11:45 mark which proved to be nothing more than a temporary setback. Jace Isley replied for the Rebels just over four minutes later (from Hunter Mayo and Ollie Josephson), redirecting the puck past Wheaties’ backup ‘tender Yale Hockey Academy call up Ethan Eskit from the edge of the crease. Making it 5-2.
The Wheat Kings were able to keep their hopes alive with a late power play goal from former Kelowna Rocket Nolan Flamand (Nolan Ritchie and Nate Danielson), but the Rebels’ Kai Uchacz (Lindgren and Jhett Larson) scored into an empty net shortly after, putting the game firmly out of reach for the opposition.
