Layne Loomer opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs on the powerplay at 5:01 of the first period from Tyler Wallace and Brett Meerman. I have never seen not only a ref but any person on the ice appear to get so excited for a goal. The effort and joy he seemed to put into showing everyone that it was a goal looked hilarious. At the same time if I was sitting on the Canucks bench I would start to wonder about the guyπ€ The Bulldogs got a 2-0 lead when Tyler Wallace scored his 2nd of the playoffs from a Carter Patterson shot on net rebound at 12:25 to make it 2-0.
Then under a minute later Tanner Willick from Tyler Teasdale and Kurt Gurkan at 13:31. Now its a 3-0 hockey game. The Canucks got on the board when Zephyr Laplante scored at 18:28 from Sam Lozinski and Easton Hewson. Zephyr that is a name I have never heard before. I knew a Zafeer years ago who was from Saudi. I googled this kid and guessing by his appearance he is not a Saudi. Kind of a cool name though.
How common is the name Zephyr for a baby born in 2021? Zephyr was the 1098th most popular boys name and 3771st most popular girls name.
Just 32 seconds into the second period Tyler Wallace got his 2nd goal of the night and 3rd of the post season. Assists on the goal to Jayden Joly and Brett Meerman 4-1 Bulldogs π.
At 2:05 Gavin Schmidt scored to cut the lead within 2. Assists on the goal to Cole Unger and 20 year old Daxton Budd. Daxton Budd is another Grade A quality name. With a name like that if hockey doesn’t work out you can join Snoop Dogg on tour.
At 5:25 of the second period Brendan Ross scored to make it a 5-2 game from Jason Siedem and Layne Loomer. Now I didn’t realize this when I was at the game but credit has to be given where credit is due. That goal was Canuck d man Cole Unger’s. Not only did it deflect of his skate if you watch the replay of the end there you can see him help the Bulldogs out by making sure that puck goes in the net. He doesn’t want his St. Patrick’s day ruined with nonsense like hockey. Always make sure you finishπ
Former Fort McMurray Oil Baron Ty Hipkin made it 6-3 at 8:06 of the second period unassisted. Well not really unassisted. It is almost like Ross felt guilty deep down inside that the Canucks got a goal for him. So like the nice team player he is he just returned the favor. This is a classy move. It promotes team work and fair play. When players play like this everyone wins. Its just the nice thing to do, it really is.
David Brandes and the Canucks Cale Sanders got ejected for what the ref called fighting at 8:55 of the second period. Coincidental roughing penalties at best. Then Dylan Bidyk blasted a shot from the point to make it a 6-4 game. Assists to Easton Inglis and Ty Hipkin at 10:27.
Jayden Joly scored at 11:28 to make it 7-4 from Tyler Wallace. Just over two minutes later Kurt Gurkan scored his first of the playoffs from Joly and Dick at 13:52 of the second on the Powerplay
Canucks goaltender Max Prazma must of been jealous and wanted a point too as he decided to set up Kody Wilick at 14:29 to let him score his first of the playoffs.
Layne Loomer scored his second of the night from Jason Siedem at 1:02 of the third period to make it 9-4. The website says Wallace but it was clearly Siedem. Under a minute later the Canucks got on the board at 1:49 when Daniel Rozsival scored his second of the playoffs from Vancouver native Matthew Strilets and Sam Lizinski. At 9:29 Canucks Gavin Schmidt scored to make it 9-6 from Justin Barker and Easton Hewson. Then with under a minute remaining Tyler Wallace scored his 3rd of the game and 4th of the playoffs on the Powerplay to give the Bulldogs a 10-6 final. Assists to Jayden Joly and Brett Meerman.
Other Notes
Game three of the series takes place Tuesday night in Calgary at the Max Bell.
Attendance in Blackfalds was 895.
The Canucks outshot the Bulldogs 37-33. Matthew Hennessey made 31 saves for the win. Max Prazma on the other end got pulled a minute into the third for Spencer Borsos. Not a single thing in the game was the kids fault. Just fell victim to a really good offence.
I don’t know what Jake Geraci did to get suspended tonight but like usual he was for sure one of the most entertaining Bulldogs to watch tonight.
The Canucks were with out some big names tonight with Bowden Singleton and Riley Hearn out just to name a few. Am not sure if they are injured or what but those guys along with Jordan McFarlane from what I’ve seen most of the year are among their top players.
