The Red Deer Rebels ended their regular season with a 5-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes before a crowd of 5,675 at the Peavey Mart Centrium. The Rebels scored their first goal 2:41 into the second period with a short-handed marker by Talon Brigley, who scored his second goal in as many nights. The Rebels added three more unanswered goals in the middle frame, while the Hurricanes ruined Red Deer netminder Kyle Kelsey’s bid for a third consecutive shutout with a goal in the third period. The Rebels and Calgary Hitmen will open their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final next Friday at the Peavey Mart Centrium.


At 2:41 of the second period Talon Brigley flew up the right side of the ice and scored his 5th of the season unassisted while shorthanded to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.

Christoffer Sedoff buried a nice pass from Kalan Lind to make the game 2-0 at 9:27 of the second period. Rebels netminder Kyle Kelsey got the second assist on that goalšŸ‘(According to quaint hockey) that is Kelsey’s first assist as a netminder of the Red Deer Rebels. Odds of him breaking the record of 10 set by Chris Wickenheiser in 1996. Cam Ward had 9 and the Rebels Legend James Reimer only had 2 in case you are wondering.

Hunter Mayo knocked Hurricane Hayden Smith clear off the puck. Basically tapped him he fell at the blue line then Mayo strolled down like a boss and made the game 3-0. Kai Uchacz got credit for an assist as he was right there and was a huge part in Mayo getting away for the break. He never touched it but he helped make the goal happen.

Frantisek Formanek fired a laser of a shot on the powerplay at 17:38 to make it a 4-0 game. Thats Formanek’s 13th goal of the season assisted from Hunter Mayo. Tyson Zimmer wrecked Kyle Kelsey’s shutout at 5:27 of the third period. Assists on the goal from Tristan Zandee and Anton Astashevich.

Kalan Lind made it a 5-1 game at 7:56 of the third period with assists on the goal to Kai Uchacz and Californian Quentin Bourne.

Other Notes

Rebels next game is March 31st in Red Deer against the Calgary Hitmen. Playoffs.

15 year old goalie Koen Cleaver played in his second game for the Hurricanes as an affiliate. Cleaver who is from Port Alberni was a third round pick 48th overall of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

In keeping with tradition, Red Deer overagers Ben King, who sat out with an injury, Sedoff and Jace Isley were feted as the gameā€™s three stars .

it is nice to keep with tradition but I highly doubt those 3 guys need any self validation for the amazing junior careers every single one of them had.
