*The Rebels win tonight was the first time the Red Deer Rebels have ever won a playoff series on home ice in overtime*
I think all Rebels fans are getting bored of seeing the Calgary Hitmen as I imagine the Hitmen fans are getting really sick of the Red Deer Rebels.
Kalan Lind opened up the scoring for the Rebels at 4:22 of the first period on the Power Play from Jayden Grubbe and Mats Lindgren. The Hitmen responded back at 13:19 of the first period on the power play when David Adaszynski scored top shelf for his second of the playoffs to make it 1-1 with assists to Oliver Tulk and Carter Yakemchuk. Then at 14:09 of the first period the Hitmen tied it up when Brandon Whynot took a feed from London Hoilett to make the game 2-1 Hitmen with the second assist going to Grayden Siepmann.
Mats Lindgren tied the game back up at 2 each when he scored on a blast from the point on the power play with only 37 seconds remaining in the first period. From Ben King and Jayden Grubbe.
But Lindgren was not done scoring yet as he decided to get a similar goal later in the game at the 7:32 mark of the second period. Giving the Rebels a 3-2 lead. This time assisted by Ben King and Jayden Grubbe on the Power Play again. I am pretty sure the 2 of them grill each other for it but Mats Lindgren was selected the exact pick before Ben King at the 2022 NHL entry draft. Lindgren went #106th and King went #107th.
Moscow man Maxim Muranov tied the game up at 12:19 of the second period with the nice assist to Carter MacAdams when they went down on a 2 on 1. The Hitmen took the lead at 2:46 of the third period while on the Powerplay when Oliver Tulk tucked the puck in on a rebound. Assists on that goal to David Adaszynski and Greyden Siepmann. Then while they were on the powerplay the Rebels doing lord knows what got lazy and or stupid. No need to name names. But then Moscow man was just sitting there shocked at what he was seeing (I think it took awhile to compute as it sure did for everyone else watching it) So he jumped on the opportunity took the lose puck and went down and got his second goal of the game. Maxim Muranov’s goal was un assisted by any Hitmen players. That made the game 5-3.
At 15:32 of the third period Matteo Fabrizi narrowed the lead to within 1. With assists to Jace Weir and Jhett Larson.
Then at 17:18 of the third period Christoffer Sedoff scored his second of the playoffs from Jayden Grubbe and Ben King. to tie the game up at 5. This game is going into overtime.
Then in overtime Ben King scored his third of the playoffs assisted by Jayden Grubbe and Mats Lindgren 4:56 into the extra frame. Winning the game and winning the series.
Other Notes
Rebels Next game depends on what happens in the Saskatoon/Regina series. If Saskatoon wins tonight they win the series then the Rebels will play the Saskatoon Blades in Saskatoon I think because the Blades had more points even though we won our division. If Regina wins, which as good as Saskatoon is Connor Bedard may have it written in his future and you know hockey Canada wants to see him win. So if Regina wins the next 2 they win the series. Then the Regina Pats will head to Winnipeg to play the Winnipeg Ice. Then the Rebels will get to host the Moose Jaw Warriors. I think thats how it would go, I could be wrong well find out.
Attendance at the Peavy Mart Centrium was 6,064.
Rebels outshot the Hitmen 44 to 24. Kyle Kelsey stopped 19 of 24 shots for the win. While Brayden Peters was solid stopping 38 of 44 shots in which was his final game of junior hockey. Peters played 5 seasons in the WHL all with the Calgary Hitmen. He played in 138 games and 5 playoff games. Seems to good to go play University Hockey right away so it will be neat to see where he ends up next year. Peters was the only 20 year old the Hitmen dressed last night.
