In their final home game of the exhibition season, the Rebels beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 on Friday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
The Rebels opened up the scoring just 1:05 into the game when Victoria, BC native Ollie Josephson snuck one in past Hitmen veteran netminder Ethan Buenaventura to make it an early 1-0 lead for the home team. Assists on the Josephson goal went to Jace Weir and Craig Armstrong. About 30 seconds later though at 1:38 the Hitmen tied up the game when Calgary native Matteo Danis scored his second goal of the preseason with assists to 16 year old Salmon Arm, BC native Sawyer Mayes and former Victoria Royal Jason Spizawka.
With a minute remaining in the first period Quentin Bourne makes it a 2-1 game with a sweet snipe👍for his 3rd goal of the preseason. With assists on the goal to former Kelowna Rocket Elias Carmichael and Czech Samuel Drancak. Shots on goal in the first period of play were 16-15 for the Hitmen.
The Hitmen tied it up in the third period when Okotoks native Ethan Moore scored short handed at 11:06 of the third period to tie the game. A little bit of a screw up considering the Rebels were on a 5 on 3 advantage🙄
Samuel Drancak scored the winning goal at 16:26 of the third period. Assists on the goal to Evan Smith and Ollie Joshephson.
The Hitmen had a two-man advantage in the final minute with Rebels serving a double high sticking minor and Buenaventura on the Calgary bench. But No reward for the Hitmen.
Rebels outshot the Hitmen 36-33. Chase Wutzke stopped 31 of 33 shots that he faced for the win. Ethan Buenaventura stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced.
Rebels next game is Saturday night against the Hurricanes in Lethbridge. The Rebels open up the season Friday September 22nd against the Edmonton Oil Kings in Red Deer.
