Just one night following the disappointment of having their WHL season opener spoiled by the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings in front of the home crowd at the Peavey Mart Centrium, the Red Deer Rebels returned the favor on Saturday at Rogers Place beating the Oil Kings 4-3.

Marshall Finnie opened up the scoring for the Oil Kings (again he did last night too🙄) with a minute remaining in the first period. Assist on the goal to third year forward veteran John Szabo. Same guy assisted it too.

Jhett Larson ties up the game with his first goal of the season at 8:55 of the second period while on the Power Play. Assists on the goal to Ollie Josephson and Carson Latimer.

Victoria, BC native Ollie Josephson made it a 2-1 game at the 10:00 mark of the second period. Assists to Frantisek Formanek and Nicholas Andrusiak.

Marc Lajoie responded for the Oil Kings just 37 seconds later at 10:37 to make it a 2-2 game. Assists on the goal to former Tri City American Rhett Melnyk and Port Moody, BC native Parker Alcos.

Marshall Finnie captured the lead for the Oil Kings at 12:31 of the second period. Assists on the goal to Marc Lajoie and Parker Alcos.

Talon Brigley scores his first of the season and makes it 3-3 at 13:35 of the third period. Assists on the goal to 6’5 Matteo Fabrizi and Jace Weir.

Kai Uchacz makes it 4-3 from Elias Carmichael and Carson Latimer at 17:41 of the third period. All three of the Rebels 20 year olds involved in that play👍

Rebels outshot the Oil Kings 36-32

Chase Wutzke delivered an impressive performance guarding the Red Deer net, successfully deflecting 29 shots, while Logan Cunningham recorded 32 saves for Edmonton.

Rebels next game is Friday September 29th when they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers in Red Deer.
