The Bulldogs were at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre in Grande Prairie which holds 3,000 spectators Friday night. I am almost certain that it has the highest capacity in the AJHL. Jeff Dunham is going to be performing there in November. I am so out of touch I thought Dunham was the “You might be a red neck guy”, but he plays with puppets I found out. The Bulldogs were on a 5 game win streak and the Storm were on a 3 game win streak. The Bulldogs won the game 7-6 in overtime with Dakota MacIntosh of the Bulldogs having a 5 goal night including the overtime winner. If you were one of the first 400 fans you got a magnetic Storm thing for your fridge.
The Storm came out strong looks like a new team. This could be a team that helps GP win their first playoff round since 2018. There are no divisions this year so have to rely on more than just one team crapping the bed to make the playoffs. The way this year has went though it does look like anyone can beat anyone.
Edward Moskowitz opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs when he fired one from the high middle to make it a 1-0 game. With the assists going to Alexander Dimitriadis and Hunter Brown at 8:05 of the first period. That’s Moskowitz’s fourth goal of the season.
While the Bulldogs were on a Power Play some miscommunication and a lost foot race and former Prince Albert Raider Zachary Wilson scored short handed and tied the game up at 1-1. The goal was unassisted and it was Wilson’s fourth goal of the season. Wilson has a point a game for the Storm so far this season.
During the TV Time outs they showed the kids cam at the Grande Prairie Arena. You don’t realize how many people are actually at the game until thats on.
Dakota Macintosh scored on the Power Play to give the Bulldogs the lead and make it a 2-1 game from Tanner Willick and Edward Moskowitz at 16:26 of the first period. It was right off the draw like a tic-tac-toe.
Maxfield got a penalty for hooking lol almost got away with it too, which the Bulldogs killed off and the Storm didnt even manage a shot during it.
Storm outshot the Bulldogs 14-8 in the first period.
Dakota MacIntosh scored under a minute into the second period to get his second goal of the night. The assist on the goal went to Edward Moskowitz. If you view the instant replay closely you will notice that the puck actually appears (I am pretty sure it hit it) to tip off of Jayden Joly’s stick when Moskowitz passed it over to MacIntosh. I am pretty sure the team or Joly is not worried or even cares about it just saying, watch him be 1 point off a record one day🤔
A very weird bounce and Thunder Bay native Alex Atwill scored to make it a 3-2 game at 2:11 of the second period. It looked almost like Maxfield thought he had it. But Atwill was right there and quickly snagged it and scored his 5th goal of the season. The assist on the goal went to Okotoks native 18 year old rookie Will Harris.
20 year old Peter Copetti from Toronto ties the game 3-3 at 5:14 of the second period. That was Copetti’s first goal of the season and by the way the announcer made it sound well overdue. It was assisted by Kaide Bugera. Copetti was tied last season with Alex Atwill for the teams lead in points with 41 each.
Just under a minute later Brendan Ross makes it 4-3 unassisted at 6:09 of the second period. That is the 10th goal for Ross this season.
Dakota MacIntosh hatrick nice back hand Beautiful goal. After that goal that was about enough of seeing the Bulldogs for netminder former CCHL Pembroke Lumber King Benoit Forget. It was then Ardrossan, Alberta native Austin Dubinsky’s turn to go in and let Dakota MacIntosh score goals on him.
Peter Coppeti got his second of the night and made it 5-4 at 10:13 of the second period from former Bonnyville Pontiac Alex Atwill and former Victoria Royal Luke Rybinski.
Copetti gets a hat trick to tie the game up at 5-5 with the assists to Alex Atwill and former Bulldog Kaiden Bugera at 17:09 of the second period.
The Bulldogs outshot the storm 11-9 in the second period.
Kids shooting at the bowling balls at the second intermission as cheesy as it looked it actually looked like a lot of fun. They should try something like that at a Bulldogs game.
Wisconsin native rookie Tyler Dale makes it 6-5 for the Storm and gives them their first lead of the game. Assists on the goal to Vancouver native William Yee and Luke Rybinski. The goal was scored right as the Bulldogs penalty ended so it counted as an even strength goal.
Dakota MacIntosh gets his 4th goal of the night from Tanner Willick at 16:07 of the third period. Making it a 6-6 game. But about 3 minutes later the Storm almost took the lead again but Wilson Maxfield shut the door on 18 year old Sherwood Park native Colin Doherty.
Dakota MacIntosh gets his 5th goal of the night for the overtime winner from Tanner Willick.
Wilson Maxfield made 26 saves on the 32 shots he faced for the win. While duties were split for the Storm with Benoit Forget making 11 saves on the 16 shots he faced until leaving the game after Dakota MacIntosh got his hat trick in the second. Then Austin Dubinsky went in net and stopped 10 of the 12 shots he faced.
Shots were 32-28 Storm.
Attendance in Grande Prairie was 1211
Bulldogs next game is Friday October 13th when the Canmore Eagles come to town. Camrose and Canmore I still get mixed up. I thought it was Camrose for the longest time coming. Canmore Camrose. There was an easier time. When Camrose wasn’t even in the league and Canmore called themselves the Bow Valley Eagles.
January 15th, 2023 Grande Prairie VS Blackfalds
Kody Willick Vs Decker Mujcin last season- Mujcin a Prince George, BC native now plays for the Portage Terriers of the MJHL.
In other AJHL games the Dragons beat the Oilers 4-3 in a shoot out. Brooks smoked Drayton Valley 8-0 in Brooks also.
