So this weekend the Rebels managed to score 2 goals. 2 goals in 2 games. That doesn’t win hockey games. Especially when you have a roster of guys who can score.🤔 In the Rebels defence they were facing 2 good goalies. That was again the case against the Blades. The Rebels had more than their share of scoring opportunities but were up against a hot goalie in Austin Elliott, who made 26 saves and was Saskatoon’s best player. Yet failed to be named a star which was mind boggling to me. 🤔Some bot might of just seen the number of saves and not actually watched the game.

20 year old Redondo Beach, California native Easton Armstrong opened up the scoring for the Blades at 5:57 of the first period on the Power Play. Assist on the goal to Captain Trevor Wong and Nashville Predators 2023 first rounder Tanner Molendyk.Easton Armstrong, stationed just outside the Red Deer crease, gave the visitors an early lead with a power play tally 5:57 into the contest, converting a feed from Trevor Wong.

Jhett Larson tied up the game on the Power Play with his 3rd goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Kai Uchacz and Mats Lindgren at 12:57-Jhett Larson notched Red Deer’s lone goal, a power play marker that drew them even at 12:57 of the first period. Larson beat Elliott from the high slot after accepting a corner pass from captain Kai Uchacz.

The Rebels outshot the Blades 9 to 7 in the first period.

Belarusian Egor Sidorov got his 7th goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game at 10:29 of the second period. With the same duo assisting his goal that did the first goal. Wong and Molendyk. Shots in the second period of play were 13-10 Rebels. -The Rebels outshot their guests in the middle frame but the Blades got the only goal as Egor Sidorov found the far side of the net from the left circle after taking a rink-wide pass from Wong.

The Rebels decided to yank their goaltender, Rhett Stoesser, with just 2 minutes and 25 seconds left in the game. However, they encountered difficulties in establishing their offensive presence in the Saskatoon end, even with the additional skater. Unfortunately for Red Deer, their destiny seemed all but certain when Larson received a slashing penalty with a mere 52 seconds left in the game. To make matters worse, a 10-minute misconduct was tacked onto his penalty. Larson’s infraction occurred when he Whacked Wong🤔, who was on the verge of scoring into the unguarded net.

There was no scoring in the third period with the Blades just outshooting the Rebels 6 to 5. The Rebels did out shoot the Blades in the game 27-23. Austin Elliot stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced in net for the win with Blades. Rhett Stoesser stopped 21 of the 23 shots that he faced for the Rebels.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Tanner Molendyk 2) Ollie Josephson 3) Trevor Wong

Attendance in Red Deer was 4516

Rebels next game is at home on Tuesday October 24th against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Then on Friday the Portland Winterhawks come into town.
