Rebels defeated the Olds Grizzlys 5-1 in a Sunday matinee.
Always neat listening to the Bulldogs play in Olds when the announcer says “Olds Grizzlys hockey brought to you by Bulldogs Bar and Grill”. This should be the last time the Bulldogs play in Olds this season. Pending on a playoff picture. I do believe Olds will make the playoffs this season as they are a way better team than they were last season. But its still early. * Again it is still better than last year but the camera work from Olds is still bad.
Bulldogs started off quickly when Layne Loomer scored just 16 seconds in on a strange shot from Tanner Willick and Dakota MacIntosh.
Brendan Ross scored his 13th goal of the season from Tanner Willick and Dakota MacIntosh on the Power Play at 10:29 of the first period. Ross tipped in a Willick point shot.
Bulldogs outshot the Grizzlys 11-5 in the first period.
The Bulldogs scored again when Dakota MacIntosh got his league leading 17th goal of the season just 56 seconds into the second period from Brendan Ross and Collin Eschricht. That also marks Eschricht’s first AJHL point.
Former Whitecourt Wolverine Daniel North scored his 7th goal of the season at 4:53 of the second period from 17 year old Airdrie native Mitch Patrick and veteran Tristan Bauming. Patrick hat a hat trick in the Olds Grizzlys 5-2 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons the previous night. Yeah that is the same Oil Barons team the Bulldogs lost to. Before you go and check no Gabe Gratton was not in goal.
Shots in the second period were 9-6 Bulldogs
Dakota MacIntosh scores his 18th goal of the season and second of the game into the empty net with a pass from Layne Loomer to make the game 4-1. #26 Blackfalds Bulldogs leading the league in scoring. Almost like it sounds familiar.
Then Otto Hanson scored when Aidan Comeau went back in net and made the game 5-1 with the assist on the goal going to Kody Willick with 46 seconds left in the game.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Dakota MacIntosh 2) Brendan Ross 3) Tanner Willick
Wilson Maxfield stopped 21 of the 22 shots that he faced for the win. Aidan Comeau played well for the Olds Grizzlys making 31 saves on the 35 shots that he faced.
Attendance in Olds was 196 and that seemed very generous It looks like a ghost town there. That is probably including the players and people hanging out at the Curling Club. I understand it is a Sunday but thats just not good. What else is there possibly to do in Olds?
Bulldogs next game is Tuesday in Blackfalds against the Brooks Bandits
