Last time the Bulldogs played the Wolverines it was not good. To the best of my knowledge it was the first time that I can remember that the Bulldogs were left scoreless. Things were different on Tuesday night with the Bulldogs skating to a 4-2 victory. It was Huck a Puck, Toonies for Toys, and Food Bank night at the EBC.
The first period was scoreless with the Wolverines outshooting the Bulldogs 10-8.
Brendan Ross opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs on the Power Play at 6:41 of the second period with the assists going to Layne Loomer and Carter Patterson.
Carter Patterson made it a 2-0 game at 8:37 of the second period with the Bulldogs on the Power Play again. The assists on the goal to Layne Loomer and Hunter Brown.
Brendan Ross scored his second goal of the game and league leading 25th of the season at 11:25 of the middle frame to make it a 3-0 game. Assists on that goal to Layne Loomer and Jayden Joly.
Hunter Brown ended Whitecourt goalie Ben Charette’s night and made it a 4-0 game at 11:42 of the second period. Assists on the goal to Brendan Ross and Collin Eschricht.
Trenton, Michigan native Evan Johnson scored his first ever AJHL goal at 16:43 of the second period. The assists on the goal going to Kaiden Wiltsie and Jarred Feist.
Shots on goal in the second period were 17-5 for the Bulldogs
Beaverlodge, Alberta native Spencer Rheaume scored to cut the lead to 4-2 at 13:16 of the final frame with the helpers going to ex Okotoks Oiler Shayne Tibbles and Colby Browne.
Shots on goal in the third period were 10-7 Wolverines. Even though the Wolverines outshot the Bulldogs in 2 of the 3 periods the Bulldogs still managed to outshoot them in the game 32-25.
Ethan Morrow made 23 saves on the 25 shots that he faced for the win. Ben Charette made 16 stops on the 20 shots he faced before leaving the game. It appeared that after Hunter Brown scored (where Charette had no help from his team at all) he just self pulled himself from the net. Charette played a good game he also showed great restraint from not grabbing his stick and attacking his lazy defenceman with it. Montreal native Lukas Renaud relieved Charette at 11:42 of the middle period and stopped all 12 shots that he faced.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Brendan Ross 2) Hunter Brown 3) Josh Sale
Attendance in Blackfalds was 400
Bulldogs next home game is Saturday December 2nd at 6pm against the Drayton Valley Thunder which is Minor Hockey Night. Then the next day its the Teddy Bear Toss when the Sherwood Park Crusaders come to town on Sunday at 2pm.
Drumheller Dragon forward and former Blackfalds Bulldog (2021-22) Kai Matthew has signed with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. He made his debut in a 6-1 loss to the Victoria Royals on Tuesday night getting 2 shots on goal and finishing the night a -2. Full Story.
The Spruce Grove Saints and Sherwood Park Crusaders played an exhibition game at the Silent Ice Centre south of Edmonton. The attendance in that game was 1668 in a 3-2 Sherwood Park win. I am not certain what the Silent Ice Centre is or will be used for. Either way its a nice barn. The other AJHL exhibition game Drumheller vs Canmore was played in Banff in front of 982 in a 3-1 Dragons win. You would almost think these teams were trying to get revenue on crappy scheduled weekday games🤔Having a lot of week day games in the AJHL hurts revenue for the clubs bad. Scheduling was done very very poorly this season.
On Wednesday night the Calgary Canucks will take on the Brooks Bandits at the Deerfoot Sportsplex at Siksika.
