This is the third game that Canada West has played the United States. They lost in exhibition 4-1 and then again in the round robin 5-1. The winner of tonight’s game plays Canada East in the Gold Medal game Sunday. The loser to play Sweden for the bronze.

Logan Sawyer opens up the scoring for Canada West at 8:47 of the first period to make it a 1-0 game with the assist going to fellow Brook Bandit Ty Mason.

2023 San Jose Sharks third rounder Brandon Svoboda who plays for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL tied it up for the US at 10:16 of the first period with the goal being unassisted.

Then a minute and 29 seconds later Humboldt Bronco Matt Van Blaricom regained the lead for Canada West with the assist on the goal to Ty Mason.

Phillipe Blais-Savoie who sounds like a guy who hails from Quebec or France but is from San Jose California and plays for the Tri City Storm of the USHL tied the game back up for the US and made it 2-2 with 46 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Assists on the goal to Chaska, Minnesota native Adam Kleber and Amherst, NH native Joe Connor. I just learned today that there is an Amherst, New Hampshire. I actually had to double check to see if it wasn’t a typo and it was suppose to be New York.

Shots on goal in the first period were 14-7 for the US

Logan Sawyer gets his second goal of the night to give Canada West the lead from Ty Mason who has has third assist of the game. The Mason-Van Blaricom-Sawyer line has been awesome tonight.

Canada West was also at one point in the second period when they were down 5-3 and successfully killed it off.

Shots on goal in the second period 9-3 for the US

Glenview, Illinois native James Reeder snuck one in past Roest through the 5 hole to tie it up for Team USA at 3 unassisted 1:31 into the third period.

Canada West outshot Team USA in the third period 14-13

This ones going to overtime and it is 3 on 3 overtime for 10 minutes with no ice clean. ( It will just be chipped to crap. I wonder why no ice clean? They clean the ice between periods for bantams. Is this to prevent climate change?) If no one scores then a shoot out. I would of figured it would be 5 on 5 until someone scored. Huck, Silverberg, and Payne to start the overtime period.

Sawyer had a break for the hat trick in overtime but Slukynsky came up with a big save.

Canada West gets a too many men which is just beyond me. They killed it off too which must of been the most stressful moment in most of their lives.

Roest made a bunch of great saves. And they all got a big break when the staff had to fix Roest’s glove (I think the strap broke). I am not sure if they were out of timeouts at this time or not.

Sam Huck scored the game winner from Dominic Payne at 6:36 in overtime to advance to the Gold Medal game.

Erik Roest made 37 saves on the 40 shots that he faced for the win. While Warroad, Minnesota native Hampton Slukynsky made 25 saves on the 29 shots that he faced for Team USA

It was at a toss between Huck, Sawyer, and Roest in my mind for Team Canada West player of the game. Huck got it and was amazing there is no question but Roest was insane. Also very neat when they were interviewing Sam Huck after the game he specifically thanked the play of Loomer and Dimitriadis on helping them win the game. Hey they played great and so did the whole team. But to just name those 2 and no one else is making me wonder if you are thinking of relocation somewhere at sometime🤔
