I have to stop the Brooks and cage jokes now. The Bandits are cageless. The Brooks Bandits defeated the Blackfalds Bulldogs 3-2 in their BCHL debut on Sunday. Nathan Free scored two goals, including one on the power play, and Ty Mason scored the game-winning goal for the Bandits. In an exciting back an forth game. There was no scoring in the first period.
Brooks outshot the Bulldogs in the first period 15-8
Nathan Free scores for the Bandits on the Power Play at 7:25 of the second period with the assists going to Parker Lalonde and Mirko Buttazzoni.
Nathan Free then scores at 9:28 of the second period later in the play as a trailer making it 2-0 beating Maxfield on his blocker side. The assists on the goal went to Logan Sawyer and Hunter Wallace.
Josh Knittig tips one in to get the Bulldogs on the board at 9:40 of the middle frame. The assists on the goal went to Kody Willick and Carter Cormier. This cuts the Bandits lead to 1. Knittig keeps getting better and better every game. I am starting to like watching him at centre lately alot more too. He is pretty good on most of the draws. Or at least ones that count I tend to notice him out there.
Dakota MacIntosh blasted a bullet past hicks to tie the game at 2 on the Power Play at 15:23 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Tanner Willick and Carter Cormier. Just like that the Bulldogs were back in the game on the score clock. That also marks Dakota MacIntosh’s first goal since his return to Blackfalds.
Shots in the second period were 14-10 for the Bandits.
Ty Mason made it 3-2 (after Macintosh and the bulldogs just had a chance on a rush in the Bandits zone) at 16:18 of the final period. With the assist going to Caelan Fitzpatrik. Mason’s goal proved to be the winner.
Shots on goal in the third period were 10-8 for Brooks. Brooks outshot the Bulldogs 39-26.
Kamloops, BC native Johnny Hicks made 24 saves on the 26 shots that he faced for the win for the Bandits. While Wilson Maxfield had a busy afternoon against his former team stopping 36 of the 39 shots the he faced for the Bulldogs.
Three Stars of the game 1) Nathan Free 2) Wilson Maxfield 3) Carter Cormier
Attendance in Brooks was 1175
Bulldogs next game is Wednesday February 7th in Sherwood Park against the Crusaders. The Bulldogs next home game is Saturday February 10th at 6pm against the Brooks Bandits.
With an average age of 18.96 the Bulldogs have the oldest team in the BCHL. (every team is very close)
The Bulldogs called up defenceman Jack Bouck from West Kelowna, B.C. Bouck plays for the Okanagan HC in the U18 JHP League. I am still not 100 % certain on the leagues new call up rules, I know we can’t grab kids from Midget and that around here due to Hockey Canada’s rules. I mean couldn’t you just grab any kid from a midget team and give him a fake name? Be funny if lots of players did that to Hockey Canada. Like a speeding ticket from the cop if they mis spell your name by one letter its not you.
Never noticed if the Bulldogs did the same. I hope that they sell the patches at the Bulldogs store so fans can replace the patch instead of buying a whole new jersey. It is so nice for these teams to be free from Gang Rape Canada or I mean Hockey Canada oh no I meant the first one.
