The Blackfalds Bulldogs lost 4-3 to the Brooks Bandits at the Eagle Builders Centre on Friday in their first overtime game of the BCHL season.

I swear to god Michael Rapaport has a kid on the Brooks Bandits team. We have to get Maury back and get a DNA test. I don’t even have to say what player it is as it is obvious as day when you watch him play. I can see him talking on the ice alot and I have bad hearing so I have no clue what he saying. But I assume that it would be very similar to the stuff that comes out of Michael Rapaport’s mouth. Kid has to be a soccer player in the summer. It seems like his jam.

Tonight also marks the 150th junior game played by Alexander Dimitriadis. Dimitriadis played 2 full seasons in the OJHL with the North York Rangers and the Pickering Panthers before joining the Bulldogs at the start of this season.

The Bulldogs struck first in the opening period when Alexander Dimitriadis seized a loose puck and buried it past Bandits goalie Sam Scopa through the back door. Tanner Willick and Jayden Joly were credited with assists at 13:27, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.

So it was fitting that Alexander Dimitriadis opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs at 13:27 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Tanner Willick and Jayden Joly.

Merrimack College commit Hunter Wallace tied the game up for the Bandits at 16:22 of the first period with the assists on the goal to Ty Mason and Logan Sawyer.

Shots in the first period were 12-9 for the Bandits

The Bulldogs reclaimed their advantage in the early stages of the second period at 5:50 when Brendan Ross capitalized on a rebound, slipping the puck through the goaltender’s five-hole for his third goal of the BCHL season. Dakota MacIntosh provided the assist, propelling the team to a 2-1 lead.

Brendan Ross gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead at 5:50 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Dakota MacIntosh. In the AJHL it was starting to be a great run to take the scoring race between Ross and the Bandits Buttazzoni. Now some kid with like 4 points will win the AJHL scoring title. Sad. He is an American too who spent most of his time learning off of a Quebec coach, you know the players the AJHL were so against having. Its about the same logic that Justin Trudeau voters have.

In under two minutes, Ryan Neumann netted his inaugural goal as a Bulldog from close range inside the crease. Easton Adrian and Carter Cormier assisted on the play, extending the team’s lead to 3-1.

Ryan Neumann gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead at 7:42 of the second scoring his first goal since joining the Bulldogs. The assists on the goal went to Easton Adrian and Carter Cormier. The assist for Adrian marks his first point also since joining the Bulldogs. Not that Bulldog fans haven’t seen Neumann and Adrian get points before. It just use to be against us.

Shots on goal in the second period were 13-5 for the Bulldogs

Hughie Hooker scores for the Bandits while short handed just 11 seconds into the final frame. The assist on the goal went to former Weyburn Red Wing Ty Mason.

Ross got a penalty for body checking. A clean hit called boarding when the kid went nowhere near the boards. That one was really a head scratcher. So while on the Power Play the Bandits scored. Rochester, New York native Nick Peluso tied the game up for the Bandits at 4:29 of the third period. Assists on the goal to Yale commit Hughie Hooker and 20 year old Oak Lake, Manitoba native Hunter Wallace.

Shots on goal in the third period were 12-9 for Brooks

The game is going to overtime and the Bandits are on the Power Play. So 4 on 3 for Brooks and Mirko Buttanzzoni scored the winner at 1:57 to win the game. The assists to former Powell River King Parker Lalonde and Penn State commit Nathan Free.

Shots in overtime were 2-0 for the Bandits. With the shots in the game being 31 each.

Recently acquired Sam Scopa made 28 saves on the 31 shots the faced for the win for the Bandits. While Gabe Gratton played solid in net for the Bulldogs making 27 saves on the 31 shots the he faced. I looked last time and I see it again on their roster and am trying to figure out why Brooks has 4 goalies.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Alexander Dimitriadis 2) Hughie Hooker 3) Ryan Neumann

Attendance in Blackfalds was 756

Bulldogs next game is Sunday February 18th at 2pm against the Spruce Grove Saints in Blackfalds.
