Late game last night more so than usual, heard it was scheduling with other hockey provincials planned way before the move to the BCHL for the Oilers. Okotoks had just had an 8-5 win against the Spruce Grove Saints on Friday night.
Either way you look at it Gabe Gratton did what Wilson Maxfield did last week against the Oilers. Played amazing and was the main factor in the teams victory. The win also puts the Bulldogs back into third place in the Alberta division.
Brett Wilson opened up the scoring for the Oilers just 2:50 into the game he was left sitting all alone in front Gratton almost got the thing with his paddle too. Anyway that made it 1-0 Okotoks the assists on the goal went to Sam Huck and Connor Gourley.
Shots on goal in the first period were 19-8 for the Oilers
It was kind of neat at the Okotoks game I am not certain what the fans were doing they looked like they were rolling tires on the ice like a shuffleboard game. Looked fun.
Carter Cormier ties the game up at 1 on a beautiful shot at 17:21 of the second period with the assists going to Ryan Shaw and Carter Patterson
Just over a minute and a half later at 18:44 of the middle frame James Johnson found Brendan Ross in front of the net who banged it in and made it a 2-1 game. The second assist went to Trent LeDrew. James Johnson took the puck from the other end skated all the way down, then around the Oilers net and found Ross. He is 6’6, he is like a giraffe that can skate.
Shots on goal in the second period were 12-5 for the Oilers.
There was no scoring in the third period and the shots in that period were 6-5 for the Bulldogs. The Oilers outshot the Bulldogs in the game 36-19.
Gabe Gratton made 35 saves on the 36 shots that he faced for the win for the Bulldogs. Mikael Kingo stopped 17 of the 19 shots that he faced for the Oilers.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Gabe Gratton 2) James Johnson 3) Brendan Ross
Attendance in Okotoks was 705
Bulldogs next game is March 30th Saturday at 6pm against the Spruce Grove Saints in Blackfalds.
