The game means nothing. Win or lose the Rebels are still in 5th and the Oil Kings are making their summer plans. The Oil Kings dominated their recent matchups against the Rebels, securing victories in their last four encounters, culminating in a 6-3 beating witnessed by 17,720 spectators at Rogers Place on Sunday. This win capped off a successful weekend for the Edmonton team, who had previously defeated the Rebels 7-3 on Saturday at the Peavey Mart Centrium. This also marks the final junior games for Skyler Bruce, Ty Nash, and Marc Lajoie.
Skyler Bruce scored his 15th goal of the season at 3:23 of the first period to make it a 1-0 game with the assist going to fellow 20 year old Ty Nash.-Skyler Bruce opened the scoring on Edmonton’s first shot, snapping a quick shot to the glove side of Red Deer starting netminder Rhett Stoesser at 3:23.
Kai Uchacz evened the game up for the Rebels at the 8:00 mark of the first period getting his 42nd goal of the season with the assists going to Dwayne Jean Jr. and Hunter Mayo.–Kai Uchacz scored his 42nd at the eight minute mark on a feed from Dwayne Jean Jr
6’6 Marc Lajoie gave the Oil Kings back the lead at 17:34 of the opening period getting his 25th goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to Adam Jecho and Gavin Hodnett.
Shots on goal in the first period were 10-9 for the Rebels
Marshall Finnie made it a 3-1 when he scored on a deflection at 6:00 of the second period with the assists going to Smyth Rebman and West Kelowna, BC native Ethan MacKenzie
Roan Woodward scored his 16th goal of the season and made it a 4-1 game at 9:50 of the middle frame with the assists going to Skyler Bruce and Adam Jecho.
Gavin Hodnett scored his 23rd goal of the season unassisted with 39 seconds left in the second period.
Shots on goal in the second period were 11-6 for the Rebels.
Jhett Larson scored his 16th goal of the season at 1:19 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to Jace Weir and Quentin Bourne.
Ollie Josephson scored on the Power Play at 17:33 to put the Rebels with in 2 goals with the assist going to Jhett Larson.
Marc Lajoie scored his second goal of the game into the empty net to make it a 6-3 game for the Oil Kings with 50 seconds left. From the other 20 year olds Ty Nash and Skyler Bruce.
Shots on goal in the third period were 7-3 for the Rebels. The Rebels outshot the Oil Kings 28-18 in the game.
Kolby Hay stopped 25 of the 28 shots that he faced for the win for the Oil Kings. For the Rebels. Rhett Stoesser made 10 saves on the 15 shots that he faced in the first 2 periods. In the third period Chase Wutzke stopped the 2 shots that he had to face in the 18:40 that he played.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Marc Lajoie 2) Ty Nash 3) Skyler Bruce. All 3 played in their last junior career games. And everyone of them would of got a star regardless. The 3 guys played awesome.
