Canada beat Finland 5-3 Saturday. Canada is second in Group A behind Switzerland with 14 points from four regulation wins and an overtime victory. Switzerland also has 14 points but has a superior goal differential (plus-16 to plus-12).

Jesse Puljujärvi opened up the scoring for the Finns 1:35 into the game. The assists on the goal went to Rasmus Rissanen and Jere Innala. I am still thinking that the Oilers are regretting drafting Puljujarvi 4th overall in 2016 when guys like Tkachuk were available a few picks later. Dubois went 3rd that year.

Valtteri Puustinen makes it a 2-0 game on the Power Play at 13:51 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Arttu Hyry and Vili Saarijärvi.

Dylan Cozens got the Canadians on the board at 14:53 of the first period with the assists going to Calgary Flame Andrew Mangiapane and Buffalo Sabre Owen Power.

Brandon Tanev tied the game up at 16:30 of the first period. Finnish goalie Harry Sateri put it in his own net. The assist on the goal went to John Tavares.

Shots in the first period were 16-11 for the Finns.

Jesse Puljuvari gives the Finns back the lead at 16:07 of the second period with his second goal of the game to make it 3-2. The assists on the goal went to Veli-Matti Vittasmäki and Saku Mäenalanen. A little off topic here but I have to cut and paste these Finnish guys names as there is no way in hell I can remember how to properly spell them.

Bowen Byram got 5 and a game for giving Puljuvari a Vasectomy. Still probably less damage than the vaccine or dating a woman in Edmonton could of done to the testies. But that was a bad slash or at least appeared to be on TV.

Owen Power scores on the 4 on 4 to tie it up and make it a 3-3 game at 17:12 of the second period with the assists going to Dylan Cozens and Colton Parayko.

Shots on goal in the second period were tied at 7 each.

Brandon Hagel scores for Canada to give them the lead 4-3 at 11:32 of the final period with the assists going to John Tavares and Pierre Luc Dubois.

Dawson Mercer scored on the empty net just as Sateri went to the bench. 5-3. I really think it would of been funny if he pulled a Ridly Greig and did a slap shot. The assist on the goal went to Owen Power at 19:37

Shots on goal in the third period were 9-4 for Finland with The FInns out shooting the Canadians 32-22 in the game.

Jordan Binnington made 29 saves on the 32 shots that he faced for the win for Canada. Harri Sateri who plays for EHC Biel-Bienne of the NL Swiss League made 17 saves on the 22 shots that he faced for Finland. Sateri was a 4th round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2008 NHL Draft. He ended up playing a total of 15 NHL games with Arizona and Florida. The majority of his pro career has been played in Russia and Switzerland though.

Player of the game for Finland was Jesse Puljujvari who had a pair he played well. For Team Canada Dylan Cozens was the player of the game.

Canada’s next game is tomorrow against Switzerland.
