There is probably going to be a lot of WHL players going early in the second round. Complete List

1- San Jose Sharks- Macklin Celebrini C Boston University NCAA

The San Jose Sharks have made the unanimous decision to select Macklin Celebrini as the top pick in the upcoming draft, a move that is expected to catapult the team’s rebuilding process. Celebrini, a 17-year-old prodigy, has made history as the youngest player to win the Hobey Baker Award, showcasing his skills and dominance in the NCAA with an impressive 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) in 38 games. Drawing comparisons to legendary players like Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, Celebrini’s exceptional two-way playing style has earned him widespread acclaim as the top prospect in the draft class. With his combination of strength, skill, and relentless work ethic, Celebrini is poised to become one of the NHL’s premier young stars and transform the Sharks into a formidable contender in the years to come.

2-Chicago Blackhawks- Artyom Levshunov D Michigan State NCAA

Artyom Levshunov, a highly-skilled Belarusian defenseman, is expected to be selected second overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Drawing comparisons to Brent Burns, Levshunov boasts a formidable combination of size, speed, and physicality, making him an attractive asset for the Blackhawks as they search for a top-tier defenseman to complement their recent acquisition of Connor Bedard. Levshunov’s impressive freshman season in the NCAA, where he tallied 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists) in 38 games, has solidified his status as the top defenseman in the draft class and a player with the potential to become a dominant force in the NHL. With his impressive skill set, Levshunov has the potential to develop into a top-pairing defenseman who can dictate play from the back end, making him an ideal fit for the Blackhawks as they continue to build their roster around their budding young stars.

3- Anaheim Ducks- Anton Silayev D Torpedo Nizhny Novogard KHL

Anton Silayev, a polarizing prospect in the NHL, has generated considerable debate due to differing perspectives on what attributes are essential for success in the league. Despite these divergent views, Silayev’s impressive skill set and imposing 6’7 frame make him a strong candidate for the Anaheim Ducks’ third overall pick. As a left-handed defender, Silayev possesses the potential to suppress elite talent, but his critics argue against his potential, focusing on his lack of apparent offensive attributes.

However, it’s crucial to recognize that Silayev, at just 17 years old, spent the entire season in the KHL, playing significant minutes in the top 4 of Torpedo. His aggressive playing style is characterized by three distinct constants, which contribute to both his strengths and weaknesses. Silayev’s ability to never miss an opportunity to join the attack and jump into the play showcases his commitment to creating space for his teammates. This aggressive approach often sees him advance deep into the opposition’s territory, even finishing actions at the net. As a formidable physical presence, Silayev’s advances push back opposing defenders and create the necessary space for his teammates to work with the puck.

Despite the ongoing debate surrounding his potential, Anton Silayev’s unique attributes and standout performance in the KHL make him a valuable addition to the Anaheim Ducks . His combination of size, aggression, and defensive prowess could make him a key asset in the team’s future endeavors.

4- Columbus Blue Jackets- Cayden Lindstrom F Medicine Hat Tigers WHL

The Columbus Blue Jackets, already boasting the talented Adam Fantilli, are in need of further depth at the center position. Cayden Lindstrom, a prototypical power forward with a heavy shot and strong presence in the offensive zone, could be the perfect addition to their roster. Despite dealing with an injury in the latter half of the season, Lindstrom’s value and impact remain undeniable. With an impressive 46 points in just 32 games, he showcases effortless stickhandling, great play-creating ability, and a strong capacity to create space off the boards and in the high slot. Lindstrom’s size and physicality make him a formidable force on the ice, and his combination of speed, size, and skill make him a dominant player at the junior level. Although his injury history is concerning, Lindstrom’s potential as a second-line center with 70-point capabilities over an extended period of time makes him an attractive option for the Blue Jackets, further solidifying their center depth for the future.

5- Montreal Canadiens- Ivan Demidov C SKA St. Petersburg KHL

Ivan Demidov is an exceptional raw talent, having outperformed Matvei Michkov at the start of the season and demonstrating historic production in the MHL. His unparalleled puck handling skills and ability to create scoring opportunities from challenging situations set him apart. Demidov’s playmaking abilities, combined with his remarkable puck control, make him a formidable opponent. He effectively uses ‘Against the grain’ passes and has a unique play in front of the goalkeepers. Although his shot strength needs improvement, his technical skills and agility are impressive. Demidov’s weaknesses include an excess of fantasy in his play and a lack of physical strength, which affects his shot power and separation speed. Despite these concerns, Demidov’s talent, commitment, and determination make him an electrifying prospect for any team.

6- Utah Hockey Club- Zeev Buium D University of Denver NCAA

The Utah Coyotes* have a promising defensive lineup, with Dmitri Simashev and Maveric Lamoureux providing a strong physical presence and Zeev Buium offering dynamic offense from the backend. As the second-youngest player in men’s college hockey, Buium led NCAA defensemen with 50 points and played a crucial role in helping Denver win the NCAA championship and Team USA secure gold at the World Junior Championship. His exceptional skating, strong edges, and remarkable composure make him an ideal candidate for the Coyotes, who are seeking an elite defenseman to complement their star-studded offense. With Buium’s impressive performance this season and his close proximity to Salt Lake City, the Utah Club is expected to select him with the sixth overall pick, though other top defensemen like Zayne Parekh, and Sam Dickinson are also under consideration.

7- Ottawa Senators- Sam Dickinson D London Knights OHL

Sam Dickinson, a skilled and agile skater, proved his worth as a major contributor to London’s power play, amassing 28 points with 11 goals and 17 assists. His exceptional performance at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 23rd showcased his prowess in 30-meter forward skate with puck, 30-meter backward skate with puck, and transition ability. Standing at 6-3, this left-handed defenseman has demonstrated consistent growth in his game on both offense and defense. As a key player on the Memorial Cup favorite London Knights, his enhanced shot and developed junior-level game have boosted his overall projection. Despite concerns regarding his decision-making, Dickinson’s combination of size and skating ability make him a potential top-four defenseman. However, to fully realize his potential, he must develop better decision-making skills, become more proactive in his defense, and excel within a structured system. With a pro-ready physique and a successful season under his belt, Dickinson enters the draft as a promising “safer” option for Ottawa’s new regime under Steve Staios.

8- Seattle Kraken- Tij Iginla C Kelowna Rockets WHL

Tij Iginla, the second generation of the Iginla family in the NHL, has seen his stock rise significantly during the season. As a high-end skater, he boasts agility and the ability to beat opponents in a straight line or change pace to catch defenders off guard. His natural offensive instincts combined with a dangerous wrist shot make him a formidable goal-scoring threat. With excellent puck handling, strong puck protection, and a quick release, Iginla is as dangerous with the puck as he is without it. Off the puck, he finds open spaces, forechecks with tenacity, and showcases the competitiveness exhibited by his father. Although he needs to improve his defensive play, his combination of skating, puck skill, tenacity, and shot should see him consistently contribute in a top-six role. Iginla’s impressive performance in the second half of the season and at the World U-18 Championship solidified his status as a valuable draft pick, ultimately leading to Seattle selecting him at #8 in the draft, ahead of the Calgary Flames at #9 whose draft plans now have a massive wrench thrown at them.

9- Calgary Flames- Stian Solberg D Valerenga NOR

Stian Solberg has been rapidly ascending the ranks in recent times, with his impressive performance at the World Championships for Norway capturing the attention of scouts who are enamored with his aggressive back-end play and the possibility of untapped scoring and puck-moving potential. At 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, Solberg’s stoic skating style and defensive prowess have made him a force to be reckoned with on the ice, despite his modest three points all season. With a fluid skating ability and a mean streak that makes him a formidable opponent in 1-on-1 situations, Solberg has proven to be a tough player to beat, regardless of the competition. Solberg represents a player they can afford to be patient with, allowing him to develop his skills and reach his full potential by the time the team’s current core requires additional support. As a player who has been playing against men for the past three years, Solberg’s size and strength have helped him stand out, earning him a spot as a likely first-round pick after initially being ranked outside of the second. Though he may need to work on his penalty-taking habits, Solberg’s willingness to play on the edge and his strong foundation as a defensive player make him an exciting prospect with the potential to become a top-four defender in the NHL, with the possibility of further growth in his offensive capabilities.

10- New Jersey Devils- Beckett Sennecke RW Oshawa Generals OHL

The New Jersey Devils, despite their initial interest in trading this pick, may now be more inclined to hold onto it and add another top prospect to their future roster. With the opportunity to make a significant addition to their lineup, the Devils select Beckett Sennecke. Sennecke has emerged as a late-blooming talent, showcasing impressive skill and strength during his OHL playoff run. His quick reactions, strong skating, and adept handling of tight spots make him a valuable addition to the Devils’ roster, providing the much-needed grit and size they require in their lineup. With 68 points in 63 regular-season games and an impressive 22 points in 16 postseason games, Sennecke has proven himself as a dominant force on the ice, despite not being the smoothest skater. His relentless pursuit of the puck, creativity in playmaking, and ability to drive hard to the lanes make him a promising prospect for the Devils’ future Stanley Cup aspirations.

11. Buffalo Sabres- Berkly Catton C Spokane WHL

The Buffalo Sabres are poised to make a similar move to their 2023 draft selection of Zach Benson, with the potential addition of a skilled forward who may even surpass Benson’s scoring capabilities. The player in question, who shares Benson’s size, stature, skating, smarts, and competitive spirit, is none other than the remarkable 18-year-old talent, Catton. Boasting a top-end offensive skill set and an impressive track record of 116 points (54 goals, 62 assists) in 68 games this season, Catton’s relentless puck pursuit and outstanding compete level make him a force to be reckoned with on the ice. Drawing comparisons to NHL draft legends like Bedard and Petan, Catton’s exceptional statistics, including a winning rate of 53.4 percent in face-offs, seven short-handed goals, and 30 power-play points, have made him an electrifying player who captivates fans and strikes fear in the hearts of defenders. While there may be concerns about his ability to maintain a center position in the NHL, his intelligence and adaptability on the ice, coupled with his remarkable playmaking abilities and precision passing, make him a formidable threat in the offensive zone. As he continues to develop his defensive skills, there is no doubt that Catton has the potential to become a top-six point producer and a valuable asset to any NHL team.

12- Philadelphia Flyers- Carter Yakemchuk D Calgary WHL

Carter Yakemchuk, a 6’3 right-handed defenseman for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL, is a ‘throwback’ player reminiscent of the physically dominant players of a previous era. His impressive rise in standings can be attributed to significant improvements and a more balanced evaluation of his abilities. Yakemchuk set a Hitmen franchise record with 30 goals this season, thanks in part to his powerful slap and wrist shots, which are threatening even from the blue line. He demonstrates an impressive ability to change shot angles, showcasing his intelligence and strong individual and team-based instincts. As a skilled puck distributor, Yakemchuk has a heightened understanding of opposing defensive systems and can turn them to his advantage. His physical maturity and aggressive playing style make him one of the most physically imposing players in the draft, and his ability to defend and break plays in all three zones, as well as his strong breakout passes, make him a highly coveted defenseman for NHL teams. Overall, Carter Yakemchuk stands out as the most balanced defenseman in the draft, with a combination of impressive defensive and offensive qualities.

13- Minnesota Wild- Konsta Helenius C Jukurit Liiga

The Minnesota Wild, facing a conundrum due to their lack of cap space, may find a solution in the upcoming draft with the potential addition of Helenius, a highly-skilled player who could be ready to join the NHL ranks sooner rather than later. As a versatile prospect capable of playing both center and right-handed winger, Helenius offers a unique combination of scoring ability and two-way capabilities that could make him a valuable asset for the Wild. Despite his relatively short stature, Helenius brings a sturdy build and intense work ethic to the ice, making him a formidable presence in the game. With impressive hockey senses, quick hands, and strong skating skills, Helenius has the potential to become a dominant playmaker on the wing, using his agility and lateral movement to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. While he has demonstrated a strong understanding of defensive responsibilities, there is room for improvement in his work ethic without the puck. Though he may need more time to develop, Helenius projects as a solid, attacking center with a well-rounded 200-foot game that could make a significant impact on the Wild’s roster in the near future.

14- San Jose Sharks- Zayne Parekh D Saginaw OHL

Recent rumors circulating around the league suggest that Parekh may be at risk of falling to the lower end of the draft’s top-tier, primarily due to concerns regarding his size and defensive capabilities. Despite these concerns, it seems unlikely that this skilled defenseman, who played a pivotal role in leading Saginaw to a Memorial Cup victory, would slip all the way to the teens. Parekh’s impressive performance in the OHL regular season, where he scored 33 goals and amassed 96 points in 66 games, led all U-18 OHLers and marked the third most productive U-18 season ever by an OHL defender. In fact, he is one of only two players in the 21st century to achieve 80 points at that age, the other being Ryan Ellis, who delivered an 89-point season in 2008-09. Beyond his impressive offensive capabilities, Parekh also demonstrates a strong defensive game, making him an all-around standout player. As the best offensive defenseman in the draft, Parekh’s numbers and model projections are truly exceptional, surpassed only by Levshunov among North American-based counterparts. His remarkable draft-eligible season in the CHL should not be overlooked, as his high-end skating, excellent edgework, and agility allow him to maneuver around opponents with ease and create space on the ice. While his defensive game may not be as sound as some would prefer, Parekh’s exceptional skating and hockey sense provide a solid foundation for him to succeed at the NHL level.

15- Detroit Red WIngs- Michael Brandsegg-Nygard F MORA IK SWE2

The Swedish leagues have long been a fertile ground for the Detroit Red Wings in terms of successful draft picks, and Norwegian-born Michael Brandsegg-Nygard appears poised to continue that tradition under Steve Yzerman’s leadership. Despite concerns about his overall skill level, Brandsegg-Nygard is a gritty forward who excels in the offensive zone with his strong forechecking ability, fitting in perfectly with the Red Wings’ recent draft strategy. He is an aggressive, physical player who contributes on both sides of the puck and is active in all zones. With a goal-scorer’s shot and a penchant for getting it off effectively, there is more to Brandsegg-Nygard than just his tenacity. He has been a popular choice in mock drafts for Detroit, thanks to his high compete level and highly projectible NHL skill set. However, it would be reductive to simply label him as a future middle-six winger for the Red Wings, as he is one of the most gifted goal scorers in this draft. Brandsegg-Nygard’s shot is legitimate, and he demonstrated his scoring prowess with eight goals in the Allsvenskan this year. He is set to join Skellefteå AIK in the SHL, where he will be teammates with Detroit’s 2023 first-round pick Axel Sandin Pellikka. As one of the most effective and hardworking players in the draft, Brandsegg-Nygard’s never-say-die attitude and blue-collar style of play have helped him maintain pace with his peers and position himself as an intriguing prospect in this year’s draft. With his rare blend of skill, tenacity, and hockey sense, he has the potential to become the perfect two-way top-six winger for the Red Wings, filling a much-needed role within the team’s depth chart.

16- St. Louis Blues- Cole Eiserman LW USNTDP

Once considered a top-five pick, Cole Eiserman’s stock has experienced a notable decline this year. Nevertheless, he remains a high-end goal scorer, boasting a blistering one-timer that sets him apart from other prospects in the draft. Eiserman’s shot is unrivaled, and he holds the distinction of being the all-time leading goal-scorer in USA Hockey National Team Development history. Despite his impressive offensive capabilities, Eiserman’s defensive game leaves something to be desired, and he can sometimes appear invisible on the ice. However, with the right usage and support, Eiserman has the potential to become a star player. In terms of pure stats, Eiserman would be a top-five pick this year, having scored an astonishing 92 goals in 88 games this season. Though concerns about his one-dimensional game and selfish tendencies have plagued him, Eiserman remains the undisputed best sniper in this year’s draft. The St. Louis Blues, recognizing Eiserman’s potential, have decided to take a chance on him, hoping that he will be able to develop the other aspects of his game, such as playmaking, defense, and neutral-zone decision-making, at Boston University in the fall before making his NHL debut in a couple of years.

17- Washington Capitals- Igor Chernyshov LW Dynamo Moscow KHL

Despite limited playing time in the KHL, Ivan Chernyshov demonstrated significant improvement over the course of the season and emerged as one of the top players in his age group. At 6-foot-2 and 196-pounds, Chernyshov is a powerful winger who leverages his strength to become a formidable power forward. He attacks defenders with purpose and possesses a promising toolkit that, if refined, could lead to a middle-six role in the NHL. Though still raw, Chernyshov’s performance at the MHL and KHL levels showcases his potential and versatility. As a right-handed winger who plays his off side, he is an attractive option for teams seeking a well-rounded forward. With his straightforward playing style, deceptive release, and average skating abilities, Chernyshov fits the mold of a new-age power winger. While he needs to develop greater consistency and enhance his overall game, there is potential for top-six upside if he can add more manipulation and deception with the puck. The Washington Capitals, recognizing his potential, have decided to draft him, confident that his experience at the KHL level and continued development will enable him to become a valuable asset in the NHL.

18- Chicago Blackhawks- Michael Hage C Chicago USHL

Michael Hage appears to be an excellent fit for the Chicago Blackhawks, as the team’s recent moves suggest a desire to target a player like Hage. Hage’s experience in the Chicago Steel system, combined with his impressive skating and speed, aligns well with the qualities that General Manager Kyle Davidson seeks in his players. Drawing comparisons to Martin Necas, Hage has overcome early-season struggles related to personal trauma and is poised to utilize his skating and skill to potentially secure a top-six role in the NHL. As a good distributor and shooter, Hage could find a place on a second line one day. Hage’s growing draft profile, following an impressive second half of the season and interviews with 31 of 32 clubs at the NHL Scouting Combine, further supports the idea that the Blackhawks may have their sights set on him. A speedy scoring center with decent size and plenty of time to bulk up, Hage is committed to the University of Michigan and, while he may need some time to develop, possesses intriguing upside. The Blackhawks’ recent trade with the New York Islanders to move up two spots in the draft suggests they have a specific target in mind, and Hage’s rising stock throughout the year makes him a strong candidate. Having overcome injuries that sidelined him for most of his USHL rookie season, Hage emerged as one of the league’s top players in his first full campaign. As a University of Michigan commit, he boasts a great shot, high-end skating, and a detail-oriented work ethic. Given his time with the Steel, the Blackhawks had ample opportunity to observe him in action and envision his potential fit within their roster. As a pure centerman, Hage could potentially lead to the team moving players like Oliver Moore to full-time wing duties, further solidifying their commitment to his development and success.

19- Vegas Golden Knights- Aron Kiviharju D HIFK Liiga

Aron Kiviharju, the Finnish defenseman playing for HIFK in the Finnish Liiga, has long been a topic of discussion among draft experts due to his impressive skill set and polarizing nature. Despite missing much of the season with a knee injury, Kiviharju remains a highly intriguing prospect with a high ceiling as a potential top-10 pick.

As a small defenseman, Kiviharju excels in managing the play through his excellent skating and high-end hockey sense. His footwork is particularly noticeable on the puck, allowing him to escape sticky situations, walk the line, and create space for himself. While his performance at the U-18 World Championship showcased some rust after his lengthy recovery, glimpses of his genius with the puck and remarkable skating ability were evident. Despite concerns regarding his physicality and a lack of offensively high-end tools compared to some of his puck-moving defenseman peers, Kiviharju’s upside as one of the best passers and smartest hockey minds in this year’s draft keeps him on the brink of the first round. His smooth and patient skating allows him to move the puck through the neutral zone in transition, a critical skill for modern NHL defensemen. Though Kiviharju’s draft evaluation is challenging due to his limited gameplay this season, his D-1 performance had many draft experts placing him near or at the top of their boards. As a boom-or-bust pick, Kiviharju’s potential impact as an effective defenseman could make him a valuable asset for any team willing to take a chance on his development.

20- New York Islanders- Teddy Stiga LW USNTDP

Stiga is a dynamic and energetic player who brings boundless energy to every shift, constantly buzzing through the ice as if his life depends on it. This season, he proved that he can play alongside anyone, particularly excelling alongside James Hagens on the US National Team Development Program’s top line. Scoring an impressive 36 goals this year, Stiga’s work ethic has garnered much attention, with few players in this draft able to match his relentless pursuit of improvement. Despite concerns about his size and playing in a bottom-six role on the USNTDP in his previous season, Stiga’s dedication to his craft led to substantial growth this year. After missing a chunk of the season due to injury, he used the time to focus on adding much-needed muscle, resulting in an increase in height and strength. Now listed as 5’10” and 176 lbs, with some outlets suggesting he may be as tall as 5’11”, Stiga has experienced a constant and steady improvement in his game throughout the season.

Stiga’s growth and hard work led to a more prominent role on the USNTDP, where he played in a top-six spot and finished third on the team with 79 points (36 goals, 43 assists) in 61 games. His relentless pursuit of the puck and strong decision-making abilities have drawn comparisons to Trocheck, and his performance at the U-18 Worlds, where he tied for the tournament lead with a plus-15, further solidified his status as a valuable prospect. With his sights set on attending Boston College next season, Stiga’s dedication to his craft and ability to excel in various roles make him a promising middle-six player in the NHL.

21 Los Angeles Kings- Matvei Gridin F Muskegon USHL

Matvei Gridin, an impressive forward hailing from Kurgan, Russia, has garnered significant attention in this year’s draft due to his outstanding snapshot and ability to beat goalies from anywhere in the offensive zone. Despite moments where he appears to go through the motions, Gridin possesses a remarkable ability to read and react to plays as well as anyone in the draft. A strong playmaker and finisher, he can generate a lot of offense, but concerns about playing on the perimeter too much have led to questions about how his game will translate to higher levels.

Dedicated to achieving his goal of playing in the NHL, Gridin came to the United States, recognizing the USHL as the best path to reach his dream. Over the offseason, he put in countless hours in the weight room and worked on fine-tuning his shot with his father, an Olympic cross-country skier, hockey coach, and personal trainer. His efforts paid off as he was utilized more on the Lumberjack’s power-play unit, further showcasing his remarkable shot. Gridin’s undeniable talent and ability to generate points in the USHL have many projecting him as an NHL middle-six forward with the potential to become a top-six scoring winger. While concerns about his play on the perimeter may lead to a second-round draft position, his successful second half in the USHL playoffs could propel him to the end of the first round. Notably, Gridin also played alongside fellow 2024 draft-eligible player Sacha Boisvert.

22- Nashville Predators- Nikita Artamonov RW Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod

Artamonov, one of the best wingers in the draft, possesses a high-end hockey IQ and an innate ability to get into scoring positions. Stepping into KHL duty, he immediately began producing, exceeding the expectations of many scouts who had watched him the previous year. Despite being an average skater at best, his energetic motor and noticeable dog-on-a-bone mentality make him an exciting option for teams. Notably, Artamonov plays under the guidance of ex-NHLer Igor Larionov in the KHL and is teammates with fellow prospect Anton Silayev, with whom he shares a close friendship and living arrangements.

Considered a first-round prospect for 2024, Artamonov spent last summer focusing on taking his game to the next level and securing a full-time KHL position, a rare achievement for a player his age. Working closely with Larionov, he credits the former Detroit Red Wings star for helping him reach new heights in his development. While Artamonov’s non-stop motor and intelligent play make him a valuable asset, scouts believe he needs to become a more dynamic scoring threat. With the ability to generate scoring chances and make quicker decisions with the puck, he could have surpassed the 30-point threshold in his first year. Though he possesses traits desirable in a bottom-six, do-it-all forward, Artamonov needs to improve his distribution and finishing plays in close. Drawing comparisons to Kirill Kaprizov at the same age, he demonstrates a similar frame and movement style, albeit with a less game-breaking presence.

23- Toronto Maple Leafs- EJ Emery D USNTDP

EJ Emery, a 6’3″ defenseman playing for NCAA powerhouse the University of North Dakota, has an impressive defensive frame at 165 pounds, despite being only seventeen years old. Drawing early comparisons to K’Andre Miller, Emery showcases athleticism, sound skating, and potential for an effective shutdown game. His skillset would be an ideal fit for the Leafs, as they require a high-end, mobile, and sizable right-shooting defenseman. Although not overly active on the scoresheet, Emery’s defensive prowess and physicality make him a formidable opponent, particularly in playoff scenarios.

Having excelled at the draft combine testing, Emery demonstrated exceptional athleticism, with his standing high jump notably surpassing the rest of the field. Boasting a 6’3″ frame and right-handed shot, he possesses considerable potential from a projection standpoint. While his defensive skills are commendable, with his large frame effectively engaged, Emery’s development in the offense department will be crucial. The Leafs have sought a long-term solution for a big, minute-munching shutdown defender, and Emery may be the answer. Excelling in a shutdown role for the United States at the U18 World Championships, Emery’s physicality and defensive prowess make him a promising addition to the University of North Dakota’s roster.

24- Colorado Avalanche- Emil Hemming RW TPS Liiga

Colorado’s recent inclination towards scouting talent outside North America has led to an influx of Finnish players in recent seasons. The opportunity to learn under Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen’s guidance could prove invaluable for Emil Hemming, a large-bodied right-shot winger with professional experience in LIIGA with TPS. While Hemming’s physical fitness for the big leagues is already evident, acquiring expertise within the North American game, akin to Mikko Rantanen, will be crucial for his development.

Boasting a pro frame at 6-1 and 201 pounds, Hemming’s strength surpasses that of most players in his age group. His ability to leverage his size to protect pucks, play through contact, and drive the net could potentially establish him as a consistent scoring threat. With impressive speed and above-average hands, Hemming’s standout skill is his shot, demonstrating excellent mechanics in wrist shots, one-timers, and catch-and-release motions. A potential power forward in a middle-six role at the NHL level, he must develop a passing game to complement his size and shot. A confident model predicts Hemming’s success in making the NHL, though his precise role within the league remains uncertain. Another option for the Avalanche in the first round, Hemming’s experience in the “rougher and tougher” Liiga, where he registered seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 40 games as a 17-year-old, showcases his ability to hold his own against fierce competition. His size and power-forward playing style align well with the Avalanche’s needs, particularly if they require a new force of nature in lieu of suspended forward Valeri Nichushkin. Hemming may be the ideal draft pick for Colorado on June 28th.

25- Boston Bruins- Liam Greentree RW Windsor OHL

Liam Greentree, a highly-intelligent playmaker and skilled scorer, possesses an impressive shot and overwhelming pace, allowing him to excel along the boards. Despite concerns about his skating pace, Greentree demonstrated significant potential during his time in the OHL. As the leading scorer for the Windsor Spitfires with 90 points, he showcased his ability to drive the play with the puck, engage in physicality, and exhibit strong leadership qualities. Although his performance at the U-18s was underwhelming, his remarkable skillset and shot remain evident. Greentree’s captaincy at age 17 and his ability to lead the Spitfires in scoring by a considerable margin, while simultaneously improving his playmaking abilities, highlight his potential as a top-15 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Despite the Spitfires’ challenging season, Greentree’s exceptional work ethic and powerful wrist shot stand out among the OHL’s forwards. His ability to fire the puck from anywhere within the offensive zone and score goals from close range has significantly improved since his rookie season. As a larger player, Greentree’s powerful shot has become a weapon, and his impressive work ethic has not gone unnoticed by scouts. Despite facing numerous challenges as the Spitfires’ captain, including playing on both the power play and penalty kill, he managed to excel in various roles, ultimately leading the team in scoring with 36 goals and 54 assists. His remarkable performance, particularly given his young age and lack of support, makes him a highly sought-after prospect for the upcoming NHL Draft.

26- Montreal Canadiens- Gabriel Eliasson D HV71 SWE Jrs

Gabriel Eliasson, a massive Swedish defenseman standing at 6’7″ and weighing 205 pounds, is an imposing figure on the ice. His size has likely contributed to the 103 penalty minutes he accumulated during his time playing. Although he may not possess the same top-level potential as Silyayev, Eliasson’s size is certainly comparable. He is set to move to North America and has committed to the University of Michigan, a program known for its successful player development. This move could potentially see a general manager taking a chance on the large defender earlier than expected, despite most scouts not placing him in the first two rounds of the draft. There is even speculation that the Montreal Canadiens are showing significant interest in Eliasson.

While his size is certainly an advantage, history has shown that it does not guarantee success in the NHL. Many players with similar dimensions have struggled to make it to the league. However, if Eliasson can adapt to the pace of the NHL, he has the potential to become a solid bottom-pairing defenseman. His skating is the primary concern that could hinder his chances of becoming an NHL regular. As he moves to the University of Michigan next season, it will be intriguing to see how he develops and adapts to the North American game. A physically imposing defenseman with the potential for improvement, Eliasson could become an impactful player in the NHL if he can refine his skills and keep up with the league’s pace.

27- Carolina Hurricanes- Adam Jiricek D HC Plzen CZE

Adam Jiricek, once considered a top candidate for the 2024 NHL Draft, experienced a setback due to a lower-body injury at the World Juniors, causing him to drop in the rankings. Despite this, he remains a high-end talent with the potential to become a solid top-four or top-pairing defenseman in the NHL. Before his injury, Jiricek was playing in the top Czech league as a 17-year-old, showing promise despite struggling to put up points. Drawing comparisons to his brother David, who earned NHL ice time with the Columbus Blue Jackets at a young age, Adam possesses similar strengths in size, skating, mobility, and first pass. A well-rounded two-way player, he can be utilized in all situations, from the power play to the penalty kill. As he bulks up and fills into his 6-foot-2 frame, he has the potential to become a formidable presence on the ice.

However, Jiricek’s powerful shot from the point has been criticized for not consistently reaching the net, limiting its effectiveness. To become a legitimate weapon, he must work on improving his ability to get shots through traffic. Despite his drop in the rankings, Jiricek’s talent and potential make him an intriguing prospect for any team willing to invest in his future development.

28- Calgary Flames- Dean Letourneau C St. Andrew’s ONHS

Dean Letourneau, a 6-foot-7 center with impressive size and skill, is a promising prospect for the Calgary Flames, who need depth at center in their prospect pool. With a few years of college hockey ahead, Letourneau has the potential to develop into a unique player at the NHL level. He dominated the High School prep circuit, using his size to overpower opponents and scoring at more than a goal-per-game pace. Letourneau’s net-front presence and quick hands make him an appealing choice for a team willing to take a risk in the first round of the draft.

Despite some concerns about the level of competition he faced in prep school and his passivity on the ice, Letourneau’s rare finesse and skating abilities for a player his size make him a tantalizing prospect. His upcoming campaign at Boston College in the NCAA will provide valuable experience against higher-quality competition. Drawing comparisons to Tage Thompson, Letourneau’s scoring prowess and physical dominance have garnered interest from teams with multiple first-round draft picks, including the Flames. If selected, he would add a different dynamic to the team’s prospect pool and potentially become a significant difference-maker at the NHL level.

29- New York Rangers- Trevor Connelly LW Tri City USHL

Before his ejection in the gold-medal game at the U-18 World Championship, Connelly was a standout player for the United States, showcasing his remarkable skill with the puck and putting up key points. Despite off-ice concerns that have raised red flags among scouts, Connelly’s raw talent as a skater and playmaker make him a top prospect in this draft class, with the potential to become a top-six contributor in the near future. His incredible skating ability has drawn comparisons to Connor McDavid, with both players demonstrating remarkable efficiency and seamless movement on the ice.

While Connelly’s offense is undeniably impressive, his defensive game remains a work in progress. His young age and size contribute to his struggles, but his use of the stick and positioning need improvement to minimize high-danger chances against his team. Providence College head coach Nate Leaman, respected in college hockey, will play a crucial role in helping Connelly round out his game and reach his full potential. Additionally, Connelly needs to bulk up to prepare for the rigors of professional hockey, as his lack of muscle could leave him prone to injury and hinder his ability to win puck battles. Despite these challenges, Connelly’s exceptional offense makes him an attractive prospect. In his draft year, he made significant strides, averaging a point and a half per game and finishing as the second-highest points-getter in the USHL, just three points ahead of Michael Hage in Chicago. With time and proper development, Connelly has the potential to become a dominant force in the NHL.

30- Dallas Stars -Marek Vanacker LW Brantford OHL

The Dallas Stars made a bold and strategic move in the 2024 NHL Draft by selecting Marek Vanacker, a highly skilled prospect known for his size, speed, and remarkable playmaking abilities. This pick addresses the Stars’ need to inject skill and creativity into their roster, particularly among their forward group. Vanacker, whose speed and hockey sense set him apart, brings a level of excitement and potential that aligns perfectly with the team’s goals.

At 6-foot-1, Vanacker possesses not only impressive speed but also the ability to find open spaces on the ice. His playmaking skills are a standout feature, showcasing a knack for setting up scoring chances and making quick, accurate passes. These attributes make him a valuable asset in today’s NHL, where speed and skill are increasingly crucial. Furthermore, Vanacker’s versatility adds to his appeal; he can play both center and wing effectively, making him a valuable addition to any forward line. While his 170-pound frame may raise concerns about his size, Vanacker’s remarkable growth in point production over the past two seasons with the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL demonstrates his incredible upside. With his exceptional vision and ability to put up elite numbers, Vanacker has the potential to be a game-changer for a team rebuilding or one on the cusp of making the playoffs.

31- Anaheim- Terik Parascak RW Prince George WHL

With their second pick in Round 1, the Anaheim Ducks secured Terik Parascak, who finished second in CHL scoring among draft-eligible players this season. Parascak’s exceptional ability to read the play and create space for himself and his linemates sets him apart. He consistently finds open spaces on the ice and exhibits a remarkable finishing skill comparable to Zach Hyman. As a highly intelligent playmaker, Parascak compensates for his average skating by being mentally one step ahead of others. The Ducks have an abundance of play-drivers, and Parascak will seamlessly fit with their young centers as a winger who plays exceptionally well off his linemates. He is skilled, tenacious, and projects as a quality complementary piece in the top six. His ability to play with other top-end players and fit seamlessly into an offensive role was showcased when his production took off after being moved to the top line.

Parascak’s hockey IQ is evident in his ability to find open space and consistently be in the right place at the right time. He is effective at getting to the net and possesses good hands in tight to capitalize on scoring chances. Although not dynamic, he outsmarts defenders with his elite hockey sense, allowing him to create scoring chances and play off his linemates effectively. While the model projects him as a middle-six forward, his exceptional hockey sense could see him become a reliable Swiss-army knife capable of putting up points if he lands on a line with other skilled players. The Ducks, with their abundance of skilled forwards in the prospects pool, would be an excellent spot for Parascak to land, given his remarkable intelligence on the ice.

32- Philadelphia Flyers- Jett Luchanko C Guelph OHL

Jett Luchanko has emerged as a promising forward prospect this season, showcasing his potential as a 3C or second-line winger. A strong skater, Luchanko excels in transition, bursting through opposing defenses with ease. His high-competitiveness and relentless work ethic make him an asset on both the forecheck and backcheck, and his ability to contribute on both the power play and penalty kill adds to his value. Although his finishing touch requires further development, Luchanko’s play-driving abilities and determination make him a valuable addition to any team, particularly alongside star players.

This season, Luchanko demonstrated his explosive skating skills and adaptability, taking on a larger role with the Guelph Storm. He led the team with 74 points in 68 games, a significant improvement from his 14 points in 46 games the previous season. A versatile right-hand shot, Luchanko can play both center and wing and showcased his prowess in six of ten on-ice categories at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects game, placing first in reaction with puck and second in transition ability with puck. While Luchanko may not possess the same ceiling as some of his peers, his work ethic and ability to contribute in various roles make him a valuable asset as a hard-working bottom-six center. The Flyers, who have targeted players with Luchanko’s speed and work ethic in the past, could be an ideal fit for him. His strong performance with the Guelph Storm, Canada at U18s, and at the combine, where he displayed impressive athleticism and intelligence, has garnered attention from NHL teams and may result in him becoming a top-20 pick.
