In an exciting hockey matchup at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Red Deer Rebels managed a narrow 5-4 victory over the Calgary Hitmen in overtime on Wednesday evening. The game’s deciding moment came when Hunter Mayo, who also scored earlier in the game, netted the winning goal during the extra period. This win not only halted the Rebels’ three-game skid but also extended their winning streak against the Hitmen to an impressive 10 games, a run that began in the previous season.

Cohen Poulin opened up the scoring for the Rebels at 5:15 of the first period with the assist on the goal going to Trae Wilke and Jake Missura. The assist marks Missura’s first WHL point.

Jaxon Fuder scores his first WHL goal to make it a 2-0 game at 19:10 of the first period with the assist going to Talon Brigley. That was a nice first goal to score too.

Shots in first were 12-10 for the Hitmen

Hunter Mayo scored his 4th goal of the season at 3:13 of the second period with a bomb from the point on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder and Jhett Larson.

Ben Kindell got the Hitmen on the board at 7:18 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Calgary Flames 2023 7th rounder Swedish Import Axel Hurtig.

Ben Kindell scored his 2nd goal of the game and 4th of the season on the Power Play at 12:46 of the second period to get the Hitmen within one. The assists on the goal went to Oliver Tulk and Carter Yakemchuk.

Shots on goal in the second were again 12-10 for the Hitmen

Ottawa Senators 7th overall pick Carter Yakemchuk ties the game up for the Hitmen at 2:12 of the third period on the Power Play, with what was one of the most beautiful goals scored. The assists on the goal went to Ben Kindell and Oliver Tulk. I think Yakemchuk is a great player there is no question about it. I was however shocked when he was selected at the 7th overall pick in last years draft. I think the only reason it didn’t look so out of place as most were still scratching their heads at the Anaheim/Sennecke pick.

Luke Vlooswyk put the Rebels back in the lead at 4:33 of the third period with a shot from the point. The assists on the goal went to Samuel Drancak and Hunter Mayo.

2024 San Jose Sharks 3rd rounder Hitmen Captain Carson Wetsch ties the game up for the Hitmen at 10:48 of the third period on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Oliver Tulk and Carter Yakemchuk

Shots in the third period were 16-12 for the Rebels.

Hunter Mayo scores the game winner in Overtime at 2:22 with the assists on the goal going to Matthew Gard and Samuel Drancak.

Shots on goal in overtime were 1 each. Each team had 37 shots apiece in the game

Chase Wutzke made 33 saves on the 37 shots that he faced for the win for the Rebels. In net for the Hitmen rookie Eric Tu made 32 saves on the 37 shots that he faced.

Rebels next game is Saturday October 19th in Red Deer against the Saskatoon Blades

Noah Kosick who was drafted by the Calgary Hitmen and opted to go the College route with Michigan. Had signed with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the BCHL but went and Played for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL is now back and signed with the HItmen but is a scratch. I am confused. Could be the NCAA thingy.

What the hell is going on in Medicine Hat? I am pretty sure everybody thought they would be the beast of the whole CHL this year. They lost tonight to the Prince George Cougars 8-1. The Tigers outshot the Cougars 29-27.
