That wasn’t one of the better showings from either team. Quite frankly it was the worst hockey game from both sides I have ever watched.
This is Vees goalie Sharky Nowek who is a Penticton native is starting in his 3rd game in 2 years. I don’t know much about the Vees roster but you usually play your third goalie against a team you view to be the worst team in the league. Nowek played well but they could of played the whole game with a sixth attacker and probably won that way.
Penticton scored first when Montreal Canadiens 2024 6th rounder Ben Merril notched his 4th goal of the season at 2:49 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Regina, Saskatchewan native Casey Brown.
Swiss Import Simon Meier makes it 2-0 Penticton at 9:58 of the first period on an unassisted goal unless you count the Bulldogs horrid clearing attempt which caused it. Meier is committed to Northern Michigan University. He also played in last years World Junior Championships with Switzerland.
Joey Melo then gets the Bulldogs on the board to make it a 2-1 game with the assists on the goal going to Aidan Castle and Tyler Chiovetti at 11:19 of the first period. That was just the Bulldogs third shot of the game.
Luke Posthumus scores to make it 3-1 when the Bulldogs team appeared to sit and watch him walk in and score. It looked like the guys on the ice were putting on a fake effort show and wanted a change. The assists on the goal went to Brown University commit Matthew Cataldo and former Carleton Place Canadien Caton Ryan at 16:32 of the first period.
Terrible give away by the Bulldogs right on the tape to Vees player Simon Meier to make it 4-1 with seconds to go in the first period. Even in beer league when I’m wasted I double check my passes before I throw them out in the middle. At the intermission guys just get undressed and go spend the rest of the night at the Casino outside of town. Anyway that goal went to Calgary native Max Heise with the assist going to Simon Meier.
Thats how a last place team plays. 3 shots good job guys the dismal effort made that all possible. Shots on goal in the first period were 14-3 for the Bulldogs
New guy Dylan Adam starts the second period who has played in the same amount of BCHL games over the last 2 seasons as Sharkey in Penticton has with 2. No idea why Esche left as the goals weren’t his fault. Maybe he finally just had enough of no one helping him. Most people would of bailed games ago on them or at least checked themselves into a nice psychiatric hospital.
The Bulldogs have played over 23 minutes of hockey so far and the Bulldogs have managed a whopping 3 shots on goal. That is less shots than Penticton has goals. The Bulldogs played a full minute of the Power Play and still never managed a shot, they were even at one point on a 5 on 3. So they shot the puck at the net and on their 4th shot on goal they scored. That is a 50% shooting rate. So the smart thing now to do would be shoot less.
Jayden Joly scored his third goal of the season for the Bulldogs to cut the lead to 4-2 on the 5 on 3 Power Play at 5:13 of the second period with the assists on the goal goin to James Johnson and Joey Melo.
The Bulldogs played a little better in the last half of the 2nd. I mean they still played like crap but on the bright side so is Penticton so they at least have that going for them.
Shots on goal in the second period were 8-6 for the Bulldogs
Hingham, Massachusetts native Ben Merrill scored to make it 5-2 at 13:11 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Toronto native and Michigan commit Zach Nyman.
Shots on goal in the third period were 17-4 for the Bulldogs. The Vees outshot the Bulldogs 37-15 in the game.
Sharkey Nowek made 13 saves on the 15 shots that he faced for the win for the Vees. For the Bulldogs Waylon Esche stopped 10 of the 14 shots that he faced until leaving at the end of the first period. He was replaced by newly acquired goalie Dylan Adams. Adams who is from Kelowna played good in his first contest stopping 22 of the 23 shots that he faced.
Three Stars of the game 1) Sharkey Nowak 2) Dylan Adams 3) Bulldogs Play by Play announcer Scott Stimson
Attendance in Penticton was 2,672
Bulldogs next game is Saturday November 2nd in Salmon Arm against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
Huck Trade
The rights of former Okotoks Oiler Sam Huck have been traded to the Brooks Bandits for Brock Souch. I am uncertain if Huck is even coming back to the BCHL as he is playing as of now down in Waterloo of the USHL.. Huck has 6 points in 14 games there. I want Huck to do well so I hope that he stays down in the USHL its better for him Brooks is a pretty gross place to live anyway.–Huck, 20, is currently playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL, tallying six points (3G, 3A) in 13 games this season. The 20-year-old forward has played 166 regular season games with the Oilers, putting up 164 points (71G, 93A). The Calgary, AB native also represented Team Canada West at the 2022 and 2023 World Junior A Challenge. He’s dressed in 29 playoff games for Okotoks, scoring 23 points. LINK
Dakota MacIntosh to University of Alaska?- I could of sworn now I could be wrong that when he first came to Blackfalds he was committed to Mercyhurst or somewhere. Then he went to play with Moose Jaw last season for about a month or so then came back. I heard they were going to allow players who have played Major Junior to get NCAA scholarships. I still do not know the certainties of it. I could see the NCAA capping the amount of non American players if they do this as to not hurt USA hockey.
