Its the Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss Game Tonight. The Oil Kings are wearing Christmas Jerseys that almost look like military camo gear. Sadly on nights like these lots of the people in attendance are people who just want to throw a bear and pat themselves on the back for doing so. Like people who take photos of themselves working at a soup kitchen at christmas then leave. A few left which was expected but it didn’t appear on TV as bad as I have seen other places have it. A caged Gracyn Sawchyn scored the Teddy Bear goal on a wrap around at 5:09 of the first period to make the 15,458 bears rain down and cause a huge delay in the game. The assists on the goal went to his brother Lukas Sawchyn and former Portland Winterhawk 20 year old Josh Mori. It is also very frustrating watching the Oil Kings games on WHL Live as I think the camera is hooked up to the Jumbo screen in the arena. So when they score it shows the pictures of all the players and its up for a good 30 seconds while play is going on. Its unfortunate as the camera does such a good job and so do the Oil King announcers.
They had a full intermission after that with an ice clean then played the last 5 minutes which were scoreless and then had a media timeout before the second period started. Shots on goal after the first period were 12-9 for the Oil Kings
On a goal that should of been waved off for clear interference counted. Still confused on it. Maybe its because his last name is Iginla. Anyway its 2-0 now Oil Kings. Joe Iginla got his 3rd goal of the season at 6:30 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to former Everett Silvertip Roan Woodard and Marshall Finnie. Even the Oil Kings own announcers on air admitted they were shocked and can not believe the ref would make that call and started laughing. 20 years ago a goal like that would of cleared the benches.
2024 St. Louis Blues 3rd rounder Czech Adam Jecho then scored on the Power Play at 10:28 of the second period. Assists on the goal went to Gracyn Sawchyn and Gavin Hodnett.
Steve Steranka got a Penalty shot at 7:12 and Worthington shut the door.
Started to get rough at the end of the second period. Shots on goal at the end of the second were 8-6 for the Oil Kings
Gracyn Sawchyn then makes it 4-0 on a 2-1 with Gavin Hodnett after the Oil Kings just finished killing off a penalty at 15:44 of the third period. Then a while after that numerous scrums occurred.
Gavin Hodnett made it 5-0 when the Oil Kings were on a 5 on 3 Power Play mainly because the Rebels gave up along time ago. Assists on the goal to Gracyn Sawchyn and Ethan MacKenzie.
Shots on goal in the third period were 14-12 for the Oil Kings. The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 34-27 in the game.
Alex Worthington earned his first career WHL shutout stopping all 26 shots that he face for the win. For the Rebels Chase Wutzke stopped 29 of the 34 shots the he faced.
Three Stars of the game were 1) Alex Worthington 2) Gracyn Sawchyn 3) Gavin Hodnett
Attendance in Edmonton was 17,234
Rebels next game is Friday November 29th against the Prince George Cougars in Red Deer

Jeremiah Roberts was traded to the Wenatchee Wild last week in exchange for a conditional 7th round selection in the 2027 WHL Bantam Draft. Roberts was selected by the Rebels 14th overall in the 2022 WHL US Prospects draft. Roberts played in 49 games with the Rebels over parts of 2 seasons. He scored 7 goals and had 16 points in that time.

Blake Fiddler, a 6-foot-4, 207-pound right-shot defenseman for the Edmonton Oil Kings, is a notable prospect for the 2025 NHL Draft. His size and reach make him effective in defensive situations, particularly in stick-on-puck engagements below the circles. Fiddler demonstrates offensive potential by joining rushes and creating plays from the blue line. However, he tends to rely more on his stick than physicality in defense and could benefit from increased strength to better handle board battles. Improving his first-step acceleration would enhance his overall impact on the ice. <SNIP> LINK
