Peyton Shore delivered an unforgettable performance in his inaugural WHL game, leading the Red Deer Rebels to an exhilarating 3-2 victory against the Prince George Cougars. The match unfolded on a very cold Friday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

The young goaltender from Winnipeg, at just 16 years old, played awesome, especially in the second period, keeping his team in the game. His stellar play set the stage for the Rebels’ comeback, culminating with his teammates scoring two crucial goals in the final frame.

Washington Capitals 2024 first rounder Terik Parascak opened up the scoring for the Cougars with a shot from the slot at 11:39 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to former Regina Pat Borya Valis and Russian Import Arseni Anisimov.

Red Deer’s deficit was short-lived, with Matthew Gard stepping up, banging home Talon Brigley’s centering pass to tie things less than six minutes later for a 1-1 game after the first period of play.

Shots in the first period were 15-8 for the Rebels

Jaxon Fuder dropped the gloves with 30 seconds remaining in the second period at center ice which seemed to spark the Rebels. Thats Fuders lord knows how many fights in how many games now. Last guy I think that played for the Rebels that fought this much was Mike Brown back in the 90s. After a scoreless second period shots in the second period were 21-5 for Prince George.

Jaxon Fuder scores the go ahead goal after the scrap to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead after a beautiful play with Captain Ollie Josephson. The other assist went to Talon Brigley at 7:13 of the third period. That is Fuder’s 6th goal of the season.

Matthew Gard gave the Rebels a 3-1 lead at 12:46 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Talon Brigley. That is Brigley’s third assist of the game.

Cougars 2023 first round Bantam Draft Pick Carson Carels scored for the Cougars at 19:08 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to 20 year old Slovak Viliam Kmec and Minnesota Wild second rounder Riley Heidt.

Shots in the third period were tied at 11 each. The Cougars outshot the Rebels 40-31 in the game.

Payton Shore was awesome in his WHL debut stopping 38 of the 40 shots the faced for the win for the Rebels. For the Cougars Joshua Ravensbergen made 28 saves on the 31 shots that he faced for the Cougars.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Payton Shore 2) Talon Brigley 3) Matthew Gard

Attendance in Red Deer was 3646

Rebels next game is Saturday November 30th against the Brandon Wheat Kings in Red Deer.

Ravensbergen is a 6-foot-4 goaltender coming off an incredible Draft-1 season with the Cougars and has all the makings of the next star goalie prospect. Stylistically, he reminds me a bit of Yaroslav Askarov, maybe without all the flash <SNIP> LINK
