Tonight, the Red Deer Rebels found themselves unable to shake off a sluggish beginning, ultimately succumbing to a 5-1 defeat by the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings, marking their first loss after a winning streak of five games.

With this game, the season series between these two conference foes is now knotted at 1-1, bringing the Wheat Kings to within a single point of Red Deer in the league standings.

Czech Import Dominik Petr made it a 1-0 Wheaties game on the Power Play at 2:35 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Jaxon Jacobsen and Quinn Mantei.

Dominik Petr scores his second goal of the night and 8th of the season at 8:04 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Nicholas Johnson and Wheat Kings leading scorer and Calgary native 20 year old Marcus Nguyen.

Quinn Mantei makes it a 3-0 game at 15:27 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Dominik Petr and Nicholas Johnson.

Shots on goal in the first period were 12-6 for the Wheat Kings

Sylvan Lake native Caleb Hadland made it 4-0 for Brandon when he scored at 1:04 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Luke Shipley.

Matteo Michels made it a 5-0 game at 7:38 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Caleb Hadland and Quinn Mantei.

Shots on goal in the second period were 11-9 for Red Deer

Hunter Mayo got the Rebels on the board with a blast from the point at 2:13 of the third period with the assists on the goal Trae Wilke and Kalan Lind.

Shots on goal in the third period were 11-5 for Brandon. The Wheat Kings outshot the Rebels 32-33 in the game.

Carson Bjarnason made 21 saves on the 22 shots that he faced for the win for the Wheat Kings. For the Rebels Peyton Shore made 9 saves on the 13 shots that he faced until being pulled after the 4th goal in the second period. He was replaced by Chase Wutzke who made 18 saves on the 19 shots that he faced.
