The Red Deer Rebels’ hopes for revenge after Friday’s defeat were dashed in a decisive 8-2 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday. This latest result marks Red Deer’s third consecutive loss and their second straight at the hands of the Oil Kings. Edmonton’s Joe Iginla delivered a standout performance with a hat trick, while teammates Roan Woodward and Gracyn Sawchyn each contributed three points to the Oil Kings’ dominant win. The Rebels offense struggled throughout the game, evident in the lopsided 42-22 shot count. Special teams also played a key role, with Red Deer failing to capitalize on two powerplay opportunities, while Edmonton converted two of their six chances.
Gavin Hodnett opens up the scoring for the Oil Kings at 3:01 of the first period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Gracyn Sawchyn and Rylen Roersma.
Carson Birnie tied the game up at 6:19 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Jake Missura and Kalan Lind.
Ollie Josephson gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead when he scored his 8th goal of the season with the assists going to Carson Birnie and Kalan Lind at 7:43 of the first period.
Roan Woodward tied the game up for the Oil Kings at 8:19 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Lukas Sawchyn and Gracyn Sawchyn.
Marshall Finnie got his 9th goal of the season and gave the Oil Kings the lead at 3-2 at the 11:37 mark of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Ethan MacKenzie and Parker Alcos.
Joe Iginla then give the Oil Kings a 4-2 lead at 17:18 of the first period while on the Power Play. With the helpers going to Marshall Finnie and Cole Miller.
Shots on goal in the first period were 19-5 for the Oil Kings.
Kayden Stroeder makes it a 5-2 game when he scored his 3rd goal of his young call up season. All 3 of his goals have been at the expense of the Rebels I might add. The assists on the goal went to Parker Alcos and Ethan MacKenzie at 5:39 of the second period.
Joe Iginla gets his second goal of the game to make it a 6-2 Oil Kings game at 13:50 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to Luke Powell and Josh Mori.
Roan Woodard scores short handed to make it 7-2 at 15:55 of the third period with thh assist on the goal going to Gracyn Sawchyn.

Joe Iginla got his hat trick goal to make it an 8-2 game at 18:19 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Roan Woodard. That was Joe Iginla’s first WHL career hat trick. He also becomes the youngest player in Oil Kings franchise history to record a hat trick.
Shots on goal in the third period were 13-9 for the Rebels. The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels in the game 42-22.
For the Oil Kings Alex Worthington made 20 saves on the 22 shots the he faced for the win for the Oil Kings. For the Rebels Chase Wutzke made 26 saves on the 33 shots that he faced in the first 2 periods of the game. Payton Shore took over in the third period and made 8 saves on the 9 shots that he faced.
