Another tough loss for the Rebels at home Saturday night. Despite showing resilience and erasing two separate deficits against the Regina Pats, Red Deer couldn’t seal the deal, falling 4-3 in overtime at the Peavey Mart Centrium. The loss extends the Rebels’ winless streak to six games (0-5-1-0), while Regina managed to break out of their own slump.
Playing in his 200th WHL game Caden Brown opened up the scoring for the Pats at 6:59 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to former Calgary Hitmen Keets Fawcett and former Medicine Hat Tiger Matt Paranych. –Brown got the puck high in the Rebels end and skated to the mid point where he let a shot go that beat Shore to give the Pats an early 1-0 lead.
Red Deer native Ephram McNutt made it a 2-0 game at 9:06 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Anthony Wilson and Cohen Klassen.– Wilson got the puck along the left boards. He found McNutt in the slot and beat Shore to the far side to give the Pats a 2-0 lead before the midway point of the first frame.
Chase Wutzke entered the game for the Rebels late in the first period when starting netminder Peyton Shore after being plowed into by Pats’ forward Anthony Wilson, who was given a major penalty and game misconduct for goaltender interference.

Matthew Gard got the Rebels on the board at 4:19 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to Talon Brigley and Jaxon Fuder.–Gard grabbed a bouncing puck in front of the Pats net, spun and beat an outstretched Pyne to get the Rebels on the board at 2-1.

Derek Thurston tied the game up at 6:23 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to Luke Vlooswyk and Jaxon Fuder. It was a a trickler of a goal, but hey the Rebels will take it.–Thurston’s shot from the left point was batted into the air by Pyne’s blocker, then off his shoulder and behind him to tie things up at 2-2.
Cohen Klassen gave the Pats the lead at 14:00 of the third period on the Power Play to make the game 3-2. Assists on the goal went to 20 year old former Kelowna Rocket John Babcock and Edmonton native Zackary Shantz.– Babcock one-timed shot from the left point that Klassen got a nice piece on and deflected it past Wutzke for his first career goal and to give the Pats a 3-2 lead.
Trae Wilke then made it a 3-3 game at 15:20 of the third period with the assists going to Samuel Drancak and Talon Brigley.– Wilke busted into the Pats zone with speed and as he got to the left circle he let a shot go that beat Pyne to even things up again, at 3-3.
Shots in the third period were 13-9 for the Pats.
Braxton Whitehead the first CHL player to start the whole NCAA stuff scores the OT winner for the Pats at 2:12 of overtime to win the game. With the assists going to Caden Brown.– A huge save by Pyne led to a break for the Pats as Brown raced up the right wing boards and sent cross ice pass to Whitehead who ripped home a one-timer to give the Pats a 4-3 win.
Shots on goal in overtime were 2 each with the Pats outshooting the Rebels 36-32 in the game.
For the Pats Kelton Pyne made 29 saves on the 32 shots that he faced for the win. For the Rebels Peyton Shore made 8 saves on the 10 shots that he faced before being replaced in the first by Chase Wutzke who made 24 saves on the 26 shots that he faced.
