The Red Deer Rebels wrapped up their four-game home stand with a tough 3-2 overtime loss to the Saskatoon Blades Tuesday night at the Peavy Mart Centrium. Despite a strong showing from goaltender Chase Wutzke, who turned away 41 shots, the Rebels couldn’t overcome the conference-leading Blades. Samuel Drancak scored his fourth goal of the season, and Trae Wilke notched his eighth in the losing effort. This was the third meeting between the two teams this season, with the Rebels’ record against Saskatoon now standing at 2-0-1-0.

Samuel Drancak made it a 1-0 Rebels game at 4:33 of the first period. The unassisted goal is Drancak’s 4th of the season.

Shots on goal in the first period were 12-10 for the Blades

16 year old Calgary native Zach Olsen ties the game up for the Blades at 12″07 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to Brayden Klimpke and German Import David Lewandowski.

Shots on goal in the second period were 21-3 for the Blades

Trae Wilke gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead at 7:00 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to Nolan Schmidt and Beckett Hamilton.

Tyler Parr ties the game back up for the Blades just 46 seconds later at 7:46 of the third period making the game 2-2. The assists on the goal went to former Victoria Royal Tanner Scott and 20 year old captain Ben Saunderson.

Shots on goal in the third period were 14-9 for the Rebels

Tyler Parr got the overtime winner for the Blades just 43 seconds into the extra period with the assist on the goal going to Ben Riche.

Shots in the OT frame were 2-0 for the Blades with the Blades outshooting the Rebels 44-27 in the game.

For the Blades Evan Gardiner made 25 saves on the 27 shots that he faced for the win. For the Rebels Chase Wutzke made 41 saves on the 44 shots that he faced in the game.

Rebels next game is Friday January 10th in Medicine Hat where they take on the Tigers. They are back home on Saturday January 11th to take on Matteo Fabrizi and the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Rebels have signed goalie Matthew Kondro from the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL. The 2007 St. Albert native was a 2022 8th round pick of the Rebels.
