The Red Deer Rebels found themselves in a frustratingly familiar situation against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, as they dominated much of the game at even strength but couldn’t secure the win. Special teams proved to be the deciding factor once again, with the Hurricanes scoring two power play goals to clinch a 3-1 victory over the Rebels on Wednesday at the Visitlethbridge.com Arena. Matthew Gard was the only Rebel to find the back of the net, while goaltender Peyton Shore stopped 28 shots. With this win, Lethbridge concludes the season series against Red Deer with seven victories and one defeat.

Kash Andresen got his 6th goal of the season on the Power Play to make it a 1-0 Hurricanes game at 5:40 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to former Medicine Hat Tiger Shane Smith and former Spokane Chief Kooper Gizowski.Lethbridge had a good start to the game jumping out to an early 1-0 lead with a power play goal just 5:40 into the game when Kash Andresen banged home a loose puck for his sixth of the season to end a 15-game goal drought; Shane Smith and Kooper Gizowski picked up the assists on the goal.

Caden Price made it a 2-0 game at 11:33 of the second period with the helpers on the goal going to Brayden Yager and Leo Braillard.The Hurricanes added to their lead at the 11:33 mark when Caden Price buried his first goal as a Hurricane to make it 2-0; Yager and Leo Braillard earned the assists on the goal.

Brayden Yager made the game 3-0 at 18:29 of the second period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Noah Chadwick and Brayden Edwards.Lethbridge struck again late in the frame when Yager scored his 22nd goal on a power play to make it 3-0; Edwards and Noah Chadwick were credited with the helpers as the Hurricanes held a three-goal lead after forty minutes of play.

Shots on goal in the second period were 13-9 for the Rebels

Matthew Gard finally got the Rebels on the board at 6:29 of the third period with the assists going to Ollie Josephson and Beckett Hamilton.Red Deer would solve Cleaver finally in the third period. Emerging from behind the net, Ollie Josephson connected with Matthew Gard out front, who sent his own rebound in for his team leading 12th goal of the season.

Shots on goal in the third period were 10-6 for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes outshot the Rebels 31-28

Koen Cleaver made 30 saves on the 31 shots that he faced for the win for the Hurricanes. For the Rebels Peyton Shore made 25 stops on 28 shots.
