The Red Deer Rebels and Edmonton Oil Kings Friday night at the Peavy Mart Centrium as the Rebels brewed up a 3-1 win over their rivals from the north. The story continues between the Rebels and Oil Kings as the two teams meet again Monday afternoon in Red Deer. May as well enjoy this win against them well they can. I have a feeling in a season or two the Oil Kings will be the dominant force in the WHL. Remember they probably will get the first overall pick in this years bantam draft via Moose Jaw.
Oil Kings Captain Gavin Hodnett gets the visitors on the board first at 11:23 of the first period while on the Power Play. The assist on the goal went to Lukas Sawchyn and Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Mirolsav Holinka.– Gavin Hodnett scored the lone of the first period for Edmonton just five seconds into an Oil Kings powerplay.
Shots on goal in the first period were 15-5 of the first period

Samuel Drancak ties the game up for the Rebels at 5:00 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to Doogan Pederson and Keaton Dowhaniuk.– Early in the second period, Samuel Drancak received a pass from Doogan Pederson deep in their defensive zone. Drancak then skated the length of the ice and scored by shooting the puck into the top of the net, beating Edmonton’s goaltender Alex Worthington to tie the game at 1-1.

Kalan Lind makes it a 2-1 game at 17:14 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Luke Vlooswyk and Derek Thurston. – Late in the period, Luke Vlooswyk released a rocket from the blue line, leading Worthington to kick out a big rebound for Kalan Lind to bury for his seventh of the season.
Shots on goal in the second period were tied at 9 apiece.
Talon Brigley scores on the empty net to make it a 3-1 game at 18:41 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Jhett Larson.

Rebels next game is on Monday Family Day against the Edmonton Oil Kings again in Red Deer

Steven Ellis – Daily Faceoff – January 16th: “The 6-foot-4 blueliner is a big-bodied defender who clears forwards away from his net and pushes opponents to the perimeter. Fiddler is averaging around 22 minutes a night this year and already looks good with the puck.”
Tony Ferrari – The Hockey News – Dec. 17th: “A big, right-shot defender who doesn’t try to be something that he’s not. Fiddler understands the nuances of the defensive game, and he blends his physicality with intelligent reads and quality stick work.”
Smaht Scouting – Dec. 10th: “He has everything NHL teams value in a defenseman of his style, and he plays a premium position on the right side of the defense. Fiddler is a strong skater with great size, good on his pivots and a very effective defender. On the rush is where he shines the most.”
Jason Bukala – Sportsnet – Dec. 3rd: “Fiddler is a big and rangy right-shot defenceman who creates secondary offence at the major junior level and is a solid skater on straight lines. He gets from “A” to “B” on time. But when he has the puck on his stick there are moments when he needs to pivot off a check and distribute more quickly.”
Penticton joining the WHL? Chilliwack? The rumors are swirling and make alot of sense. Personally I am for this and against it in so many ways. It is bad for the BCHL and also unbalances the WHL divisions. I highly doubt there is any region (minus maybe Ft Mac or GP and the league hates those places) that could possibly host a team in the East. Billings maybe? We will find out more later.
