On the bright side this is the only really stupid early Canada game for people to wake up in the west to watch this tournament. I went out and got a coffee at the gas station before it started and people were out heading home from the bar🙄
In the opening match of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Canada capitalized on three power-play opportunities across the first two periods, securing a decisive 4-0 victory against Slovenia.

Bo Horvat made it a 1-0 Canada game at 7:22 of the first period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Nathan Mackinnon and Horvat’s cousin Philadelphia Flyer Travis Konecny.– The Canadians opened the scoring during a four-minute power play, MacKinnon setting up Horvat at the top of the left circle where he wired a high shot to the short side past Lukas Horak at 7:22.Â
Shots on goal in the first period were 14-4 for Canada
Nathan Mackinnon makes it a 2-0 game at 3:41 of the second period with the assist going to Calgary Flame D man Mackenzie Weegar.– MacKinnon extended Canada’s lead early in the second when his shot of the rush snuck under the pads of Horak at 3:41.

Bo Horvat got his second goal of the game (on the Power Play again) at 13:38 of the second period. The assists on the goal going to Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan Mackinnon and Seattle Kraken Dman Brandon Montour.

Noah Dobson then made it 4-0 after scoring on a beautiful pass from Macklin Celebrini at 16:55 of the second period. The other assist went to Nashville Predator Ryan O’Reilly.– Then, at 16:55, coach Dean Evason threw out a Kid Line for the second power-play unit comprised of Macklin Celebrini, Kent Johnson, and Adam Fantilli. Celebrini made a great pass to Noah Dobson, and he redirected the puck in the far side to make it a 4-0 game.
Shots on goal in the second period were 22-3 for Canada
Shots on goal in the scoreless third period were 8-4 with Canada outshooting Slovenia 44-11 in the game
For Canada Victoria, BC native and former Kamloops Blazer Dylan Garand stopped all 11 shots that he faced for the shut out win for Canada. For Slovenia Lukas Horak (who appears to be a Czech🤔) stopped 40 of the 44 shots that he faced.
Player of the game Slovenia was Blaz Gregorc a guy who appears to have played in every single country in Europe. And for Canada it was New York Islanders Bo Horvat. For player of the game they both received nice watches. I do not know what Gregorc makes a year, but when I see that gifted to a any guy on team Canada (or any player with an NHL contract) I sort of get sick to my stomach. Donate something in those players names to charities they don’t need a piece of jewelry🙄.
Attendance at the Avicci Arena in Stockholm was 9, 011
Canada’s next game is Sunday May 11th against Latvia.

Again still very shocked that Horak was not awarded star of the game. The fact of him even waking up and playing made him deserve it, the way he played there was no doubt. Maybe there is a friendship code on something for who wins it but Horak was the best player on the ice for both teams!!!.
