The Red Deer Rebels brought fresh fire and desperation to their matchup with the Spokane Chiefs, but came up agonizingly short in a 3-2 defeat on Saturday evening at the Centrium. Landon MacSwain kept his scoring streak alive, ripping home a power-play marker for his third goal over the last three outings, and captain Talon Brigley capped things off with a late strike in the dying moments—his milestone 100th point in the WHL.
Former Regina Pat Sam Oremba kicks off the scoring for the Chiefs at 8:51 of the first period. The assist on the goal went to Penticton, BC native Mathis Preston.
Shots on goal in the first period were 10-5 for Spokane

Landon MacSwain gets his third goal of the season to tie the game up at 1 at 4:57 of the second period on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder and Derek Thurston.–In the second period, Red Deer hit back on the power play when Derek Thurston fed a perfect pass to Jaxon Fuder, who ripped a one-timer right at Chiefs goaltender Linus Vieillard. The rebound deflected off Landon MacSwain and trickled over the line, evening things up at 1-1.
Prince George, BC native Chase Harrington gives the Chiefs the lead at 14:48 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to West Vancouver, BC native Coco Armstrong. I know the kid has probably heard this a million times before but the name Coco still sounds like a strippers name from the 1980’s.
Shots on goal in the second period were 11-5 for the Rebels
Regina, Saskatchewan native Sam Oremba got his second goal of the game and 4th of the season shorthanded at 9:02 of the second period to make it a 3-1 game on the Penalty Shot.

Talon Brigley got the Rebels within one at 19:38 of the third period on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Beckett Hamilton and Matthew Gard.–With Wutzke on the bench for an extra attacker, the Rebels capitalized on a last-minute powerplay. Beckett Hamilton threaded a perfect pass through the crease to the backdoor, where captain Talon Brigley tapped it in for his team leading fourth goal of the season and 100th career point. Unfortunately, that’s as close as the Rebels would get as Spokane ran out the final seconds for a one-goal win.
Shots on goal in the third period were 8-6 for the Rebels. The Rebels outshot the Chiefs in the game 24-21.
For the Chiefs German Linus Vieillard the Chiefs selection, the 57th overall pick in the 2025 CHL Import draft made 22 saves on the 24 shots that he faced for the win for the Chiefs. For the Rebels Chase Wutzke made 18 saves on the 21 shots that he faced.

Rebels next game is Tuesday October 21st against the Warriors in Moose Jaw.

“He has speed to burn as he’s always in motion, showing great edges and footwork to be deceptive with his movements. He always has defenders on their heels as he pushes them back when flying down the wing or out of the corners.”- “Preston is so good with the puck on his stick and he plays with high-end speed – something many teams struggle to contain. He had a solid 45-point regular season, but he really came into his own near the end of the year.”-LINK
