Following a midweek road swing through Saskatchewan where they snagged three of four available points, the Rebels came back to their home rink on Friday for a showdown with the Regina Pats. Standout multi-point efforts from Beckett Hamilton, Matthew Gard, Landon MacSwain, and Talon Brigley propelled the Rebels to a convincing 5-2 win against the Pats. Matthew Kondro, the goaltender recently called up from Lloydminster in the AJHL, stepped in before puck drop and stopped 25 shots to notch his maiden WHL victory. The Rebels’ special teams shone brightly in the matchup, converting 2 of 3 power-play chances while limiting the Pats to just 1 success on their 4 attempts.
Former Everett Silvertip Julien Maze gets the Pats on the board first at 4:01 of the first period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Caden Brown and Red Deer native Ephram McNutt.–Entering the zone on the man advantage, McNutt bumped the puck to the slot where Maze made a nifty move and buried a backhand to open the scoring.

Talon Brigley responds for the Rebels to tie the game up with a nice wrap around at 8:25 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Jaxon Fuder and Matus Lisy.–With the puck dumped into the Pats’ zone, Brigley won a foot race to the loose puck, cut out front, and wrapped it into the net to tie the game for the Rebels.

Matthew Gard gets the Rebels the lead with 3 second left in the opening period while on the Power Play. The assist on the goal went to Beckett Hamilton.–Following a shot from the point, Hamilton shuffled the puck into the Pats’ crease where Gard tapped it into the open net for his second of the night to give Red Deer their first lead.
Shots On goal in the first period of play were 9 to 7 for the Rebels.
Pats forward Zachary Lansard makes it a 2-2 at 6:58 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Julien Maze and former Medicine Hat Tiger and Bowling Green commit Matt Paranych.–Starting from their own goal line, Paranych fired a stretch pass to Maze, who sprung Lansard on a breakway. Lansard made no mistake, faking out Kondro and lifting a shot over the glove at 6:58.

Keith McInnis gives the Rebels the lead at 13:51 of the second period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Matthew Gard and Talon Brigley.–From the top of the left circle, Coupland fed Brigley below the goal line. After a scramble in front, the puck popped loose to McInnis, who found the back of the net to give Red Deer the lead at 13:51 on the man advantage.
Shots on goal in the second period of play were 11-7 for the Regina
Landon MacSwain scores on the empty net at 17:54 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Beckett Hamilton.–With the Pats net empty, Hamilton misses the open cage, but the puck bounded to MacSwain who scored to double the Rebels’ lead at 17:54.
Beckett Hamilton scores into the empty net at 19:18 of the third period to make the final score 5-2. The assists on the goal went to Landon MacSwain and Samuel Drancak.
Shots on goal in the third period were 10-9 for the Rebels. The shots in the game ended deadlocked at 27 apiece.
For the Rebels Matthew Kondro made 25 saves on the 27 shots that he faced for the win. For the Pats Okotoks native Marek Schlenker stopped 22 of the 25 shots that he faced. I literally thought Schlenker was a European for the last few seasons🤣🤣
Three Stars of the game were 1) Talon Brigley 2) Julien Maze 3) Matthew Gard
Attendance in Red Deer was 3211
Rebels next game is Saturday October 25th in Red Deer against the Calgary Hitmen
