Friday night’s scoreboard showed a 4-1 Edmonton win, but it didn’t come easy against a gritty Red Deer Rebels squad that forced the WHL’s second-place Oil Kings to work for every goal. Talon Brigley scored Red Deer’s only marker, while goaltender Peyton Shore put on a show in net, making big saves under constant pressure and giving his team a chance to stay in it until the end. The Rebels, now 10-13-1-2, head back home for a Saturday matchup against Prince Albert.

Landon Hanson made it a 1-0 game for the Oil Kings scoring his 11th of the season at 4:43 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Max Curran and former Kelowna Rocket Kanjyu Gojsic.

Shots on goal in the first period were 10-8 for the Rebels.

Talon Brigley evened the game up for the Rebels on a strange goal at 14:52 of the second period shorthanded with the assist on the goal going to Keith McInnis.The Rebels found the equalizer with 5:08 to go in the second period, scored by captain Talon Brigley while shorthanded. The tying goal was the Rebels’ first shorthanded goal of the 2025-26 campaign.

Fargo, North Dakota native Andrew O’Neill gave the Oil Kings a 2-1 lead at 15:27 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to St. Louis Blues 2024 3rd rounder Adam Jecho.Oil Kings retook the lead 35 seconds later off a one-timer in the slot by O’Neill.

Landon Hanson got his second goal of the game at 12:00 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Langley, BC native Kanjyu Gojsic.In the third period, Edmonton took a 3-1 lead with eight minutes remaining with another goal from Hanson. His second of the night came on a rebound opportunity in front of the net. Goaltender Peyton Shore didn’t stand a chance after he was run into by one of his own players, creating an open net for Hanson.

University of North Dakota commit Andrew O’Neill got his second goal of the game at 18:01 of the third period unassisted into the empty net to end the game.

Shots on goal in the third period were 13-8 for the Oil Kings. The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 29-25 in the game.

Parker Snell made 24 saves on the 25 shots that he faced for the win for the Oil Kings. For the Rebels Peyton Shore made 25 saves on the 28 shots that he faced.
