In last night’s BCHL first-round playoff Game 4 on April 8, 2026, the Sherwood Park Crusaders defeated the visiting Blackfalds Bulldogs 5-2 at Sherwood Park Arena, seizing a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Bulldogs dominated the shot clock 37-23 and generated numerous quality chances, including several breakaways, yet many of those opportunities ended with weak, tentative shots that failed to test the Crusaders’ goaltender. Blackfalds also went 0-for-6 on the power play, while a spirited fight broke out between Danny Hussa and Conner Broadhead—though it appeared more one-sided, with Hussa using Broadhead like a piñata. Attendance was once again disappointing, with the announced crowd looking noticeably sparse in the stands and coming in at figures that rivaled—or even fell short of—what the teams typically drew during training camp. It would be a sad and deflating way to see the season end in such an empty building, especially against a Crusaders squad that has shown its share of complaints and inconsistency this postseason. Still, the Bulldogs have proven they can mount dramatic comebacks. They once erased a 3-1 series deficit in the AJHL against Drumheller, and with Game 5 returning home to the Eagle Builders Centre on Friday, April 10, Blackfalds will need to channel that resilience if they hope to force the series back to Sherwood Park and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Danny Hussa made it a 1-0 game for the Bulldogs at 8:18 of the first period with the assist on the goal going to Nicholas DiPaolo. Hussa and DiPaolo did the same thing the night before just the rolls were reversed.Nicholas DiPaolo picked up a loose puck at center ice and joined Danny Hussa on a 2-on-0 rush. DiPaolo slid the puck over to a wide-open Hussa, who tapped it into the empty net to open the scoring at 8:18.

Braeden O’Keefe ties it up for the Crusaders at 9:17 of the first period during the Power Play on an absolute garbage bounce of a goal after the Bulldogs had a bunch of quality chances at the other end while they were shorthanded. The assists on the goal went to Erik Kald and Kent Moors.

Shots on goal in the first period were 9-8 for the Bulldogs

Braeden O’Keefe scores his second of the game to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead at 7:26 of the second period with the assist on the goal going to Maxime Ly. The Bulldogs let O’Keefe stand there and shoot. It looked like they purposely let him score. 🙄🤔

The Crusaders made it a 3-1 game when Braeden O’Keefe completed his make a wish kid hat trick at 9:19 of the second period on a deflection off his skate. The assists on the goal went to Joseph Sinclair and Michael Mikan. All the goals that he scored resembled the goals that my 6 year old nephew scores when he comes for fun skate with adults.

Dean Toskos scored and got the Bulldogs within one making it a 3-2 game at 18:35 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Noah Mertz and Nikita Meshcheryakov. Before the period ended, the Bulldogs struck back. Dean Toskos executed a perfect give-and-go with Noah Mertz as they entered the offensive zone, allowing Toskos to bury his second goal of the postseason. Nikita Meshcheryakov earned the secondary assist on the tally at 18:35.

Shots on goal in the second period were 16-8 for the Bulldogs.

Crusader Bode Sampair scored to give them a 4-2 at 6:55 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Brant Romaniuk and Ryan White.

Maxime Ly scored on the empty net to make it a 5-2 game at 19:06 of the third period. The helper on that goal went to Braeden O’Keefe.

Shots on goal in the third period were 12-7 for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs outshot the Crusaders 37-23 in the game.

For the Crusaders Filip Vavro made 35 saves on the 37 shots that he faced. For the Bulldogs Oliver Kiraly made 18 stops on the 22 shots that he faced.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Braeden O’Keefe 2) Filip Vavro 3) Ryan White
