The Red Deer Rebels suffered from early penalty issues, which proved costly in a 4-1 defeat against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena on Friday night. Lethbridge capitalized on their opportunities, netting three power play goals in the first period alone, setting the stage for what would become the Rebels’ 13th consecutive loss.

19 year old Swiss Import Leo Braillard made it a 1-0 game for the Hurricanes at 8:41 of the first period on the Power Play. Assists on the goal went to 20 year old super vet Brayden Edwards and Winnipeg Jets prospect Brayden Yager.- The first goal came 8:41 into the game as Leo Braillard kicked off a big night with his 17th goal of the year on Lethbridge’s opening power play.

Leo Braillard gets his second goal of the game at 8:55 of the first period on a totally seperate Power Play to make it a 2-0 game. The assists on the goal went to Logan Wormald and Brayden Yager.After Red Deer took a penalty on the ensuing faceoff, Braillard struck again 14 seconds later.

Logan Wormald made it 3-0 for the Hurricanes while on the Power Play at 16:42 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Noah Chadwick and Brayden Edwards. -Eight minutes later on another man advantage, Logan Wormald tipped home a shot through the five hole of Peyton Shore for a 3-0 Hurricanes lead.-

Shots on goal in the first period of play were 12-6 for the Hurricanes

Talon Brigley scored his 5th goal of the season at 2:03 of the second period to get the Rebels on the board with the assist on the goal going to Jace Weir.With determination to claw back into the game, Red Deer took to the ice in the second period with renewed vigor. Their hard work paid off early when Jace Weir fired a shot from the right point, which Talon Brigley deftly tipped in from the top of the crease, marking his fifth goal of the season.

Shots in the second period were 17 to 12 for the Lethbridge Hurricanes

Leo Braillard got his hat trick goal at 5:12 of the third period to make it a 4-1 Hurricanes game. The assists on the goal went to Logan Wormald and Noah Chadwick.Braillard completed his hat-trick in the third period, and Lethbridge held on for the 4-1 victory.

Shots on goal in the third period were 7 each. The Hurricanes outshot the Rebels 36-25 in the game.

For the Hurricanes Koen Cleaver made 24 saves on the 25 shots that he faced for the win. For the Rebels Peyton Shore made 32 saves on the 36 shots that he faced.

Rebels next game is Saturday January 25th in Red Deer against the Moose Jaw Warriors. This is a 3 game weekend with the Rebels playing on Sunday in Calgary also.
