The Bulldogs had a great comeback late in the third period it just wasn’t enough as they came up a goal short in an awesome game at the EBC Saturday night against the first place Penticton Vees.

After a scoreless first period shots on goal were 11-5 for the Vees.

Thomas Neu was on a sort of breakaway shorthanded and the puck went in the net. It appeared as if there was going to be a penalty shot on the play. I don’t think that anyone in the stands thought it was a goal or even something that merited a penalty shot, just a penalty. But Neu got his third of the season short handed at 4:35 of the first period.

Luke Posthumus scored his 20th goal of the season to tie the game up at 1 at 7:58 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Ottawa, Ontario native Caton Ryan and University of Nebraska Omaha commit Nolan Stevenson. Every time I see the name Posthumus I think of some sort of medical procedure.

Kelowna, BC native Callum Stone made it a 2-1 Vees game at 17:59 of the first period with the assists on the goal going to Lindenwood commit Anselmo Rego and Norfolk, Massachusetts native Matthew Cataldo.

Shots on goal in the second period were 16-7 for the Vees

Eli McKamey made it a 3-1 Vees game when he scored his 6th goal of the season 2 minutes into the third period. The assists on the goal went to Caton Ryan and Matthew Biotti.

Eli McKamey got his second goal of the game at 7:05 of the third period to make it a 4-1 Vees game with the assists on the goal going to Caton Ryan and Calgary native and Michigan State commit Max Heise.

Joey Melo gets the Bulldogs within 2 at 17:02 of the third period while on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Nicholas DiPaolo and Noah Mertz.

Noah Mertz scores with 31 seconds remaining in the third period to get the Bulldogs within one with the assists on the goal going to Austin Borggaard.

Shots on goal in the third period were 10-7 for the Vees. The Vees outshot the Bulldogs 37-19 in the game.

Will Ingemann made 16 saves on the 19 shots that he faced for the win for the Vees. For the Bulldogs Kirill Kapustin made 33 saves on the 37 shots that he faced.

Three Stars of the game were 1) Catton Ryan 2) Joey Melo 3) Eli McKamey
