Yet another match, another goaltender, another shutout.
On Saturday night, it was Chase Wutzke’s opportunity to keep a clean sheet as the Rebels secured their second consecutive 3-0 victory on the road, this time against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
In contrast to their game in Regina on Friday, the Rebels didn’t score until the third period, when they finally unleashed three unanswered goals to break the deadlock.
Shots on goal in the first period of play were 8-3 for Red Deer.
Shots on goal in the second period were 17-6 for Red Deer. There was also a scrap between Samuel Drancak and Max Finley. But due to the WHL’s policy of friendship and rainbows or whatnot I have no footage of it to show.
Noah Milford got the Rebels on the board finally at 2:41 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Beckett Hamilton.– It was early in the third period when Noah Milford, playing his fourth game of the season as an affiliated player, put one past Hutchison for his first WHL goal and a 1-0 Rebels lead.
Jhett Larson scored his 7th goal of the season at 9:16 of the third period with the assist on the goal going to Matthew Gard. That is Larson’s third goal in his last 4 games since returning.
Derek Thurston scored into the empty net at 18:34 of the third period to make it a 3-0 game unassisted. That is Thurston’s second empty net goal in as many games on this road trip.
Shots on goal in the third period were 9-7 for Red Deer with Red Deer outshooting Moose Jaw 34-16 in the game.
Chase Wutzke stopped all 16 shots that he faced for the shutout win. For the Warriors former Vancouver Giant and Nanaimo, BC native Matthew Hutchison made 31 stops on the 33 shots that he faced.
