In a commanding 5-1 victory, Canada overcame a stellar performance by Austrian debutant goaltender Florian Vorauer, with Nathan MacKinnon scoring twice in the second period to secure the win. Despite Austria taking an early 1-0 lead against the run of play, Canada’s relentless pressure paid off, maintaining their perfect 4-0 record and first place in Group A. Austria, now 0-1-0-3 with two points, remains in sixth and faces France next, while Canada prepares for Slovakia on Saturday.
20 year Montreal Canadians 2022 third rounder Vinzenz Rohrer makes it 1-0 for Austria at 11:20 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to former Penticton Vee and UMichigan right winger Brian Lebler and New Jersey Devils 2020 sixth rounder Benjamin Baumgartner. Rohrer played 2 seasons with the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL and currently plays with the Zurich Lions in the NLA.–This marked only the second time Austria has ever had a lead against Canada. On 25 April 2004, they led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second. Canada rallied to tie the game, 2-2, and that’s how the game ended, the only time Austria has earned a point from Canada in 12 games going back to 1931.

Nathan MacKinnon gets his second goal of the game to make it 2-0 at 13:10 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to Brandon Montour and L.A Kings assistant captain Phillip Danault. Canada was on a delayed penalty call for over 2 minutes before they scored. It was nuts.–MacKinnon notched his second goal of the game in what might be the most chaotic delayed penalty sequence you’ll ever witness. With Canada controlling the puck in Austria’s zone and Fleury pulled from the net for nearly three minutes, they passed, shot, and kept Austria from touching the puck to trigger a whistle. At 13:10, MacKinnon finally ripped a shot past Vorauer, securing Canada’s first lead of the night.

Travis Konecny makes it 3-0 Canada at 8:32 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Will Cuylle and Noah Dobson.–Canada made it 3-1 at 8:32 of the third on a lucky play. Will Cuylle came out from behind the net, turned and fired, but the shot was tipped and the puck came right to Travis Konecny to the back side. There was no chance for Vorauer on the play.

Marc Andre Fleury stopped 15 of the 16 shots that he faced for the win for Canada. For Austria Florian Vorauer was awesome stopping 47 of the 52 shots that he was peppered with all night.
