Canada played the USA in the semi finals of last years tournament beating the USA 5-1. This year they lost to the USA in a shoot out and will play Finland for the Bronze medal. With the victory, Team USA advances to the championship game of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup for the first time since 2016 and will face Sweden tomorrow (Aug. 16) in search of its first championship in the event since 2003.
Boston College commit Noah Davidson from Irvine, California makes it 1-0 USA on a Power Play goal that just trickled in, at 5:10 of the first period. The assist on the goal went to Nikita Klepov. Davidson spent last season at Shattuck St. Mary’s and will play with the Medicine Hat Tigers until leaving to Boston College in 27-28.–Team USA opened the scoring 5:14 into the contest, as Noah Davidson (Irvine, Calif.) slipped a rebound chance home on the power play after a shot from Zielinski.

Windsor Spitfires Ethan Belchetz gets a great pass from Prince George Cougars Carson Carels to make it a tie game just 34 seconds into the second frame. The second assist on the goal went to Everett Silvertip Landon Dupont.–Canada responded 34 seconds into the middle frame, as Ethan Belchetz scored from the slot to tie the game.
The Americans retake the lead at when New Germany, Minnesota native Luke Puchner scores at 8:32 of the second period with the assists on the goal going to 6’6 Brooks Rogowski and Fargo, North Dakota native Zaide Penner. That is the second goal that a certain Canadian d man caused. This one was pure laziness on their part.–Luke Puchner (New Germany, Minn.) regained the lead for the U.S. at 8:32 of the second, poking a rebound past Canadian netminder Gavin Betts following a shot from Brooks Rogowski (Brighton, Mich.).
USA makes it a 3-1 game on the Power Play when Berlin, New Jersey Blake Zielenski scores at 18:58 of the second period.–Team USA took a 3-1 lead with 1:01 remaining in the second, as Zielinski found the back of the net after a net-front scramble to give the U.S. its second power-play goal of the contest.

Tynan Lawrence scores on the Power Play to get Canada within one at 3:00 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Ryan Lin and Medicine Hat Tigers Markus Ruck.–Ty Lawrence brought Canada within one 3:00 into the third, wristing a shot home on the power play.
Canada ties it up when Spokane Chiefs Mathis Preston buries a goal at 14:55 of the third period.–Mathis Preston tied the contest with a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle with 4:55 remaining in the third.

So stupid that they go 3 on 3 in overtime in an elimination game. Not much happened in the OT until 1:02 left in the game when Canada got a penalty. It almost could of been a penalty shot thankfully it wasn’t. Considering 2 of the American’s 3 goals are on the Power Play. This game is going to a shootout.
Shots on goal in the overtime period were 6-1 for the USA. Canada outshot the Americans 37-32 in the game.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada born and Toronto Minor Hockey product Brady Knowling made 34 saves on 37 shots that he faced for the win for Americans. I am assuming his mother or father was born in the states. I found nothing on line about it though. For Canada Gavin Betts made 29 saves on the 32 shots that he fafced.

The other Semi Final game taking place today. Sweden VS Finland. Sweden beat Finland in overtime. Sweden overcame a 5-2 deficit in the third period to stun Finland 6-5 in overtime in the other semifinal.
