The Red Deer Rebels hit the road up the QEII for a weekday showdown against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Hanging tough and matching the league-leading Oil Kings blow for blow in the opening frame, the Rebels hit a wall after intermission, letting Edmonton surge ahead for a decisive 7-3 victory.

Former Drumheller Dragon 16 year old Jensen Marsh opened up the scoring for the Oil Kings with his first WHL goal at 2:36 of the first period. The helpers on the goal went to Josh Lee and Andrew O’Neill.The Oil Kings were beaten down with injuries heading into the game, and it was Jensen Marsh, who was recalled before the game, who got the scoring started for the Oil Kings. The 16-year-old sent a puck towards the net off a skate and in for his first career WHL goal to make it 1-0 Edmonton.

Beckett Hamilton ties the game up at 1 at 5:02 of the first period with his 5th goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to Talon Brigley and Jake Missura.Beckett Hamilton tied it up for the Rebels just 2:26 later, as he had some space on the right wing, snapping it over the shoulder of Oil Kings goaltender Ethan Simcoe for his fifth goal of the campaign.

Former Sherwood Park native and St. Louis Park, Minnesota native Paol Andersen gave the Oil Kings a 2-1 lead at 7:25 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Colorado Avalanche draft pick Max Curran and St. Louis Blues draft pick Adam Jecho.Poul Andersen restored the Oil Kings’ advantage by whipping a wrister from the slot’s crest, then jamming home the rebound himself amid the frenzy just outside Rebels goalie Matthew Kondro’s crease.

Shots on goal in the first period were 10-8 for the Oil Kings

Samuel Drancak tied the game back up for the Rebels at 4:47 of the second period with the assists going to Aleksey Chichkin and Luke Vlooswyk.The Rebels responded again just about five minutes into the second period as Samuel Drancak grabbed a rebound and tied the game 2-2.

20 year old West Kelowna native Ethan MacKenzie made the game 3-2 for the Oil Kings at 13:17 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Lukas Sawchyn and McCreary, Manitoba native Ryan Gower.Edmonton retook the lead for the third time, courtesy of Ethan Mackenzie, who found some open ice in the high slot, and was able to snap the puck past Kondro to make it 3-2 with 6:43 to play in the second period.

Czech native Max Curran got the Oil Kings up 4-2 with his 5th goal of the season unassisted at 16:57 of the second period.Max Curran, who stole the puck at the Rebels blue line and beat Kondro to make it a 4-2 lead for Edmonton with three minutes to go in the second.

Joe Iginla whose father may of played hockey a time or two made it a 5-2 game for the Oil Kings while on the Power Play at 18:23 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Max Curran and Ethan MacKenzie.Joe Iginla lit the lamp for the eighth time this season, bumping the Oil Kings’ edge to 5-2 on a power-play snipe at 18:23 of the second frame. The puck, on a sharp cross-ice dish from Iggy, clipped a Rebels blueliner and squirted past the goalie.

Shots on goal in the second period were 14-11 for the Rebels

Talon Brigley scored for the Rebels at 3:12 of the third period while on the Power Play. The assist on the goal went to Beckett Hamilton.Talon Brigley provided an early spark for the Rebels in the third period, as he tipped home a shot from Beckett Hamilton on the power play to make it a 5-3 game less than four minutes into the third period.

Joe Iginla scored his 9th goal of the season to make it a 6-3 game for the Oil Kings at 9:11 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Lukas Sawchyn and Seattle Kraken 2025 second rounder Blake Fiddler.

Andrew O’Neill made it a 7-3 game for the Oil Kings at 11:21 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to Lukas Sawchyn and Jensen Marsh.

Shots on goal in the third period were 16-5 for the Oil Kings. The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 37-27 in the game.

For the Oil Kings Ethan Simcoe made 24 saves on the 27 shots that he faced for the win. For the Rebels Matthew Kondro stopped 30 of the 37 shots that he faced.
