In a night that’ll haunt the Rebels faithful for a while, the Red Deer crew got absolutely steamrolled 9-0 by the Calgary Hitmen on home ice at the Peavey Mart Centrium. They couldn’t buy a goal, firing 26 shots at Calgary’s stonewall netminder Eric Tu and coming up empty every time, while their own power play went 0-for-2 in a brutal display of futility. Calgary, meanwhile, feasted on eight man-advantages, burying five of them—Kale Dach and Luc Trevors each potted a pair, with Aura, Molgachev, Gorzynski, Funk, Moore, and Hurtig piling on the pain. Poor Matthew Kondro got yanked after facing just 12 shots in the first, Peyton Shore fared no better in relief against 13 more, and even Kondro’s late return couldn’t stem the bleeding. The defeat drops Red Deer to a grim 10-16-1-2, and now the battered Rebels limp into their final pre-holiday tilt Tuesday against Brandon, desperate for anything that doesn’t feel like this soul-crushing beatdown.
