Facing elimination, the Red Deer Rebels kept their season alive with a 4-3 comeback victory over the top-seeded Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday, despite being outshot 38-13 at the Marchant Crane Centrium. Following a slow start, key goals from Cameron Dillard and Beckett Hamilton, along with a decisive power-play strike from Kalder Varga, secured the win, sending the series back to Prince Albert for Game 5 on April 3 with the Raiders leading 3-1.

Brandon Gorzynski makes it a 1-0 Raiders game at 4:35 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Brayden Dube and Alaska-Fairbanks commit Linden Burrett.The Raiders wasted no time setting the tone. Just five minutes in, Brandon Gorzynski jumped on a loose puck off a blocked shot and slipped it past Kondro to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.

Daxon Rudolph makes it a 2-0 game for the Raiders at 8:00 of the first period while on the Power Play. The helpers on the goal went to Brock Cripps and Aiden Oiring.The Raiders didn’t waste any time on the man advantage. Just six seconds into the power play, Daxon Rudolph hammered a shot from the point to put Prince Albert up by two.

Cameron Dillard gets the Rebels on the board with a shot from the point marking his first goal as a Rebel at 19:12 of the first period. The assists on the goal went to Cole Temple and Jake Missura.The Rebels refused to let the game slip away early. With just seconds remaining in the opening frame, Cameron Dillard hammered a shot from the left point that found its way through a screen and past Michal Orsulak. It was a milestone moment for Dillard, marking his first goal since joining the Rebels.

Shots on goal in the first period were 12-4 for the Raiders

Cameron Dillard scores his second goal of the night to tie the game up at 2:45 of the second period.Dillard wasn’t done yet. Early in the second, he threw another puck toward the net from the right point that took a couple of lucky bounces off Raiders defenders like it was a pinball game and found its way in. Just like that, we’ve got a 2-2 hockey game.

Connor Howe the brother of former Regina Pat Tanner Howe makes it 3-2 for the Raiders at 8;15 of the second period. The assists on the goal went to Ben Harvey and Riley Boychuk.Connor Howe answered for the Raiders, finishing a pass from Ben Harvey to put Prince Albert back on top, 3-2.

Beckett Hamilton ties the game at 3 at 14:31 of the second period. The assist on the goal went to Jiri Kamas.Red Deer jumped back into the driver’s seat thanks to some slick skating from Beckett Hamilton. Hamilton worked his way around the circle before snapping a shot that Orsulak couldn’t quite squeeze, letting it leak through to restore the Rebels’ lead.

Shots on goal in the second period were 22-4 for the Raiders

Kalder Varga makes it a 4-3 game on the Power Play at 1:24 of the third period. The assists on the goal went to Beckett Hamilton and Nate Yellowaga.It all came down to the final 20 minutes with the game deadlocked at three and the Red Deer Rebels fighting to keep their season alive. The home crowd didn’t have to wait long for a reason to celebrate; early in the third, Kalder Varga found a soft spot in the slot and buried a power-play marker to blow the roof off the building.

Shots on goal in the third period were 5-4 for the Rebels. The Raiders outshot the Rebels 38-13 in the game.

Matthew Kondro stopped 35 of the 38 shots he faced for the win for the Rebels. For the Raiders Michal Orsulak stopped 9 of the 13 shots that he faced.
