Friday night in Saskatoon looked a lot like a team that had spent two days stewing over a 4-1 loss in Prince Albert. The Rebels jumped the Blades before the building had really settled in, and by the 6:13 mark they were up 3-0. Saskatoon native Beckett Hamilton, back in front of a home crowd at SaskTel Centre, opened the scoring at 2:53. Thirty-six seconds later Poul Anderson made it 2-0, and before the period was six and a half minutes old Anderson had his second, tipping home a pass from Hamilton. At that point Red Deer had outshot the Blades 9-1 in front of 8,414.
Saskatoon pushed back. Yegor Gusev and Brayden Klimpke scored in the second, and Cameron Kuzma’s marker at 7:15 of the middle frame was the only other Red Deer goal. The Blades finished with a 29-27 edge in shots and got a power-play goal on six chances, while the Rebels went 0-for-3. Matthew Kondro still stopped 27 of 29, including 10 in a third period where Red Deer managed just two shots and had to kill a five-minute boarding major. The 4-2 win snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Blades that dated to December 2024, moved Red Deer to 3-2-0-1, and put them atop the Eastern Conference — and the league — with seven points through six games.
