Come on guys ditch the cages you’re not in the AJHL anymore, well not really anyway lots to talk about there but there is a time and a place for that in another post. This post is to talk about the game, which probably will not count in the standings and could be an exhibition game.

Dakota MacIntosh makes his return to the Bulldogs lineup after returning from his stint with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Carter Patterson is out with an injury.

That mesh is so ugly to look at in Sherwood Park. A few people getting hit in the head by pucks the odd times regardless of the result is worth getting rid of it. Watch I’ll get hit in the head with a puck next game. If I do and I sue I will donate the money to The Cru to buy a Jumbotron in the arena.

Ryan Shaw got a nice chance on a break away and missed right out of the penalty box. I spilt my breakfast beer on that one too. Its hard to score on most goalies in this league let alone Erik Roest. The Bulldogs came out hard at the gate and were clicking well. Main thing the Crusaders did that the Bulldogs didn’t was finish their chances.

Crusaders got on the board first when Zac Maxwell scored at 15:23 of the first period. The assist to Adam Raesler who already served his 2 game suspension even though the Bulldogs just played them on Tuesday. (The Crusaders have played 2 games since then)

Shots on goal in the first period were 10-6 for the Bulldogs.

Former Vernon Viper Ethan Merner makes it 2-0 Crusaders shorthanded unassisted. Well sort of.

Brendan Ross scores on a shot from the high slot between the face off circle to cut the Crusaders lead to 2-1. The assist on the goal went to David Brandes.

Hunter Price made it 3-1 Crusaders at 9:15 of the middle frame with the assist going to 16 year old Kale Dach.

Former Calgary Canuck Connor Frost scored on a tip in shot to make it 4-1 Crusaders at 12:48 of the second period with the assist going to former Camrose Kodiak Cooper Sharp.

Hunter Price makes it 5-1 on the Power Play at 15:16 of the second frame with the assist going to 16 year old Kale Dach and St. Cloud State Commit Brock Souch.

Shots on goal in the second were 16-8 Crusaders

Connor Frost makes it 6-1 Crusaders 1:05 into the third period with the assists going to Zac Maxwell and Adam Raesler.

Carter Cormier gets the Bulldogs back on the board with his 8th goal of the season with the assist going to Brendan Ross and Dakota MacIntosh at 5:12 of the final period. It is now a 6-2 game for the Crusaders. The AJHL site says that Ross scored that goal but you can clearly see it is Cormier who scored it (it has since been fixed*). I think they misprinted a few of the Crusaders goals also on there. Maybe its punishment.

Shots in the third period were 11-9 Blackfalds. The Crusaders outshot the Bulldogs 31-29 in the game.

Erik Roest made 22 saves on the 24 shots that he faced for the win for the Crusaders. While Wilson Maxfield made 12 saves on the 16 shots that he faced before being replaced by Gabe Gratton after the 4th goal. Gabe Gratton then stopped 7 of the 9 shots that he faced.

Three Stars 1) Zac Maxwell 2) Logan Hauer 3) Brendan Ross

Attendance in Sherwood Park was 402

Bulldogs next game, maybe who knows ? Is Saturday January 27th against the Brooks Bandits one of the Evil Five teams so maybe it will be okay to play the game.
