In an electrifying showdown at the Brandt Centre, the Regina Pats and Red Deer Rebels battled it out in a nail-biting contest that ended in a 7-6 shootout victory for the Pats.

Tye Spencer opens up the scoring for the Pats at 3:04 of the first period on the Power Play. The assists on the goal went to Tanner Howe and Ty Gibson who is playing in his 200th WHL game today.(1-0 Pats at 3:04 – Tye Spencer (16), assisted by Tanner Howe & Ty Gibson (PP) // The Pats worked the powerplay to perfection as Howe sent a cross-ice pass to Spencer who ripped a one-timer past Stoesser to give the Pats a 1-0 lead early in the first period.)

Frantisek Formanek scores his 13th goal of the season at 11:13 of the first period with the assists going to Matteo Fabrizi and Jace Weir.(1-1 Rebels at 11:13 – Frantisek Formanek (13), assisted by Matteo Fabrizi & Jace Weir // Fabrizi’s shot looked to be going wide but Formanek was able to get a piece of the shot and tipped it past Huet to tie the game up at 1-1.)

Mats Lindgren gives the Rebels a 2-1 lead at 13:54 of the opening period with the assists going to Jhett Larson and Frantisek Formanek.(2-1 Rebels at 13:54 – Mats Lindgren (7), assisted by Jhett Larson & Samuel Dranchak // Larson and Lindgren pass the puck between themselves with the last pass to Lindgren who ripped a long blast past Huet to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.)

Edmonton native Zackary Shantz scores his 6th goal of the season shorthanded with the assist on the goal to Palmer, Alaska native Braxton Whitehead.-(2-2 Pats at 18:20 – Zackary Shantz (6), assisted by Braxton Whitehead (SH) // The Pats broke in two-on-one and Whitehead found Shantz behind the defence and he made no mistake as he tucked the puck past Stoesser to tie the game up at 2-2.)

Shots on goal in the first period were 13-7 for the Rebels

Kalan Lind scored his 10th goal of the season on the Power Play right in front of the net to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead with the assists on the goal to Ollie Josephson and Hunter Mayo. (-3-2 Rebels at 1:13 – Kalan Lind (10), assisted by Ollie Josephson & Hunter Mayo (PP) // Josephson sent the puck to Lind who got low in the Pats zone and he was able to go undetected and tucked the puck past Huet to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead early in the second.)

Projected 2024 NHL First Rounder Tanner Howe got his 23rd goal of the season at 5:42 of the second period to make it a 3-3 game. The assists on the goal went to former Saskatoon Blade Zach Moore and Braxton Whitehead.– (3-3 Pats at 5:42 – Tanner Howe (23), assisted by Zachary Moore & Braxton Whitehead // Moore sent a pass toward Howe and the puck deflected off a defender back to Howe who made no mistake as he tied the game up at 3-3.)

Shots on goal in the second period were 5-4 for the Rebels

Kai Uchacz scores his 31st goal of the season to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead just 16 seconds into the third period. With the assists on the goal going to Jhett Larson and Jace Weir.(4-3 Rebels at 16 seconds – Kai Uchacz (31), assisted by Jhett Larson & Jace Larson // Uchacz picked up the puck amongst legs in the Pats’ zone and he sent a quick shot past Huet to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead early in the third period.)

Kai Uchacz then gives the Rebels a 2 goal lead making it 5-3 at 5:37 of the third period. Tye Spencer scores for the Pats on the Power Play at 11:12 of the third period with the assists on the goal going to Ty Gibson and Sam Oremba.– (5-4 Pats at 11:12 – Tye Spencer (17), assisted by Ty Gibson & Sam Oremba (PP) // A beautiful cross-ice pass from Gibson found Spencer who one-timed it past Stoesser to pull the Pats to within one at 5-4.)

Zach Moore scores for the Pats to tie the game up at 5 at 14:01 of the third period. With the assist from Ty Gibson.

Sam Oremba gets his 14th goal of the season to give the Pats a 6-5 lead at 16:08 of the third period with the assist on the goal to Tye Spencer.

Uchacz’s third goal of the game was the 100th of his WHL career, 97 of which have come with the Rebels – tying him with Ben King for 5th most in franchise history

Kai Uchacz completes the hat trick at 18:23 of the third period to tie the game up at 6 each. The assists on the goal went to Hunter Mayo and Jhett Larson.

Shots on goal in the third period were 10-9 for the Pats.

This game is going to overtime. Where Uchacz hit a post with a minute left I think every single person in the building thought the game was over. Overtime solved nothing with the Rebels outshooting the Pats 2-1 so its time for a shootout. They already lost one this road trip in Prince Albert. The Rebels are 3-5 in Shoot outs this season. The Rebels Lead the league in shoot out games with 9.
