The Bulldogs dropped a 5-1 preseason game to the Spruce Grove Saints on Tuesday night.
Oscar Wu who from Vaughn, Ontario scored from the point for the Saints to make it a 1-0 game. Former Bulldog Matheson Mason won the draw straight back to him for the assist at 6:44 of the first period.
Colin Doherty who played with the Grande Prairie Storm last season then made it 2-0 Saints when he snuck one past Caufield at 15:04 of the first period. The assist on the goal went to Blainville, Quebec native Alexy Lachaine.
30 seconds later it became a 3-0 game when 20 year old veteran returnee Ryan Johnstone scored at 15:34 of the third period. The assist on that goal went to Austin Peters and Adam Perron.
Then when the Bulldogs ran around in their own end like chickens with their heads cut off and made really lazy changes the Saints made it 4-0. Josh Polak got that one with the assists going to Ethan Kronewitt and University Nebraska-Omaha commit Teo Pisani at 17:05 of the first period.
Shots on goal in the first period of play were 21-9 for the Saints.
Lucas McDonald scored for the Bulldogs on the Power Play from Nayan Pai and Ryan Castle at 2:52. McDonald hails from New Westminster, BC.
At around the second half of the game Mikkel Christiansen relived Sam Caufield in net (About 6 minutes left in the second)
Shots on goal in the second period were tied at 11 each. The Bulldogs played a little better in the second period but still had very big issues finishing their chances.
The Saints made it 5-1 when Austin Peters was sent on a break all alone from a very beautiful pass by Ryan Harvey.
Then after that the referee decided that the Saints arena sucked and needed to be repaired. As the glass was falling apart. Put the Bulldogs to work to fix it the haven’t done much in that end anyway. Some guy is on tv fixing it with gum or something. Eventually, if it was safe or not to play, play resumed anyway.
Shots in the third period were 10-6 for the Saints. The Saints outshot the Bulldogs 42-26 in the game.
Xander Miceli who hails from the hockey hotbed of Nashville, Tennessee was solid for the Saints and made 25 out of the 26 shots that he faced for the win. For the Bulldogs Sam Caufield started the first half of the game and made 28 saves on the 32 shots that he face. Mikkel Christensen took over and made 9 saves on the 10 shots that he faced.
