I thought for the first time in franchise history that the Bulldogs would of been able to have a veteran goaltender. Appears that may not be happening now. Bulldogs lost 2 key players and came out with “signing rights” to a guy. Something I assume CJHL teams go through on the regular. Losing Maxfield to a College team or USHL would be understandable. He seems like he would be out of place in the AJHL. But then to go to an expansion team as a 20 year old could be a fun experience. It should also be noted that former NHLer Kelly Buchberger is the coach of the Devon Extreme and by the sound of it that had alot to do with him going. I’ll have to head down to Olds when the Grizzlys play the Xtreme now. Hope Maxfield does well it sucks to see him go from a fan perspective. Maxfield played his 2023-24 season with the Blackfalds Bulldogs, where through 25 AJHL games he had a 19-4-0 record. This was accompanied by a 2.59 GAA (goals against average) and a .904 SV% (save percentage). He spoke about his excitement to be headed to Devon for his 20-year-old season saying, “I’ve been talking with Kelly (Head Coach & GM Kelly Buchberger) the last week or two. He expressed a lot of interest in me, and I think the team wanting me to be a part of the team so bad is what really made me want to sign here.” Maxfield also made more mention of Bunchberger stating, “Having a coach like Kelly with all his NHL experience is awesome.” He spoke about what he brings to The Xtreme between the pipes saying, “I’m a goalie with lots of size, I move well and I think the biggest part of my game is the way I think it, and the way I read plays.” Being the first 20-year-old signing for Devon, Maxfield also talked about the leadership aspect he brings saying, “I think I can bring that leadership impact to a brand new team. I’ve been on some good teams the last two years, lots of good culture on those teams, and I hope to bring that to Devon.” Maxfield closed out the interview wanting to restate his excitement to join The Xtreme for the 2024-25 season.
